"Do what you do, for yourself and let everyone either like it or not."

Put it to music.

You guys could turn it into a best selling song.

Record it to Pod Cast.

Sell it to the Village People.

Come Back MayB Baby do do do

I agree about comb-overs but those poor guys just need someone kind to set them straight

Talion, let them dance. It is sadder when people let appearances dictate everything even their fun. I danced only yesterday with my little daughter. The music being played at my friend's house - was 70s music (not disco) and my three-year-old wanted to dance. Appearances are the least of my concerns at moments like that.

And the answer is: Do what you do, for yourself and let everyone either like it or not. When YOU are done doing it, stop.

MayB
Whenever I see "has-beens," the first thing that comes to mind is how pathetic they are trying to somehow reclaim what they lost. Like a balding man with a comb-over, we're supposed to pretend we don't notice. I never stopped to consider that maybe they still do what they do simply for the love of doing it. Maybe they aren't so pathetic. However, a bunch of middle-aged and/or older people jumping around to disco music still is.

Timmytales, no need to apologize. It was just an example. If they are happy to play and people are happy to see them that's their business as far as I'm concerned. However, I did want my friend to see that it is unrealistic to expect every performer to give up the minute they are not on top. They've still gotta eat.

I think sadder than the groups like the Village People still touring, are the people willing to pay to see them!

And who knows what other interests the VP earn the "right" to do as they play these gigs

Hi Brisbane artist.

"Most painter at least half the time make their money from something else so that they can retain the 'right' to paint"

As do many writers ;-)

MayB
I was once a racing greyhound.  Then I got too old and became a pet, but I couldn't give up my urge to race.  Now I'm here in the dog food factory waiting for the next line.  So long, friends.

Being Yourself

I agree with you entirely MayB  "achievement is about finding a place where you can be yourself without going to ridiculous lengths except for making it as excellent and fun as can be."

Just a thought though.

By reading the billboard you don't really know what they were playing though do you?

Maybe they have moved on artistically, as an act,  but,  kept the name.

I think MayB painting is quite different.  Painters just keep moving on to the next thing.

People either look or they don't.

Most painter at least half the time make their money from something else so that they can retain the 'right' to paint.

Just thoughts,

Jo

But it IS a strange sensation to hold an unsought body of knowledge.

I keep remembering the old Airborne guy in the Costner movie "The Postman":

"I know a few things..." (smirk).

Hence,

I like Masky's comment!!!

The only way to ever see the "peak" is in the rear-view mirror, unless you have very limited ambition. We are like old greyhounds, we race as long and as fast as we can, and eventually our time slip, other dogs pass us, and finally we hope someone nice adopts us. We never stop after a race and say "Well, that was the best I'll ever do", we usually shoot for more.

Some performers I find painful to watch as they grow older. Some seem to still be having a ball and dressing appropriately. It's the botox and  obvious plastic work I find so sad.

I feel like the Village People some days...overdressed, unappreciated, and out of style.  LOL

I don't know if I'll ever make it to the top in anything, but I'll certainly enjoy the ride!

The desire and struggle to reach the top spot exist in any field. These ranking positions are temporal in nature because the world is definitely not a static place. If we see things from that perspective, it will certainly be easier for us to move on in life.

For some reason, this post has reminded
me that I haven't sent anything out in a while.  How am I going to be a has been if I never get to actually be anything.
