Isn't it sad though that courtesy and ulterior should appear so close together in the same sentence?

I don't think that courtesy
should ever be considered un-pc but you're probably right, you'd probably be accused of ulterior motives if the pc police caught up with you.

It is more likely that we'll miss something in our rush
to get to where we're going.

Why do we feel the need to rush - is it because we think we're going to miss something? Surely that's much more likely as a result?

It's a shame that we're not even paying attention to the needs of children

in our rush to get to wherever we are going.

for your comment. I though it was sad too and pleased you didn't think I'd just become sad because of my upbringing that always emphasised good manners - which we have as a bedrock of good behaviour for our own children.
