whimsey
i think you are my new hero...next to jesus of course...i love directness in a person...and if I lived in your city/state I'd vote for you, simply because you'd be on independent ticket...although i have a sad suspicion that there will never really be any independent in a high position of power for a long time...but you have my repect, big time.

Well, CB...
I do pray for this nation but not as often as I should. And, no, I haven't run for office but I have thought about it. I'm in the process of getting my own publishing company off the ground and I want to wait until I have enough money of my own to enable me to pay for the advertising and campaign. It is quite expensive and I don't want to be accused of taking "special interest" money. That doesn't mean I won't take campaign donations but a political campaign isn't something you just jump into. I may be more than a lot of people can handle, though, as a politician because I'm pretty direct and a lot of people don't care for people who are direct. I'd probably have to run on an independent ticket because I'm not a good butt kisser and I don't think the parties would care for me.

However, there are a lot of Christians out there who do have money and position that would allow them to run for office yet they are too scared or just don't want to get involved.

hey whimsy
I am a Christian, and I agree. But please tell me if you have ever run for office or pray for those in authority often. If you are one of the few, then bless you, and if not, it's time to practice the preach.

That's what happens when we take God out of our society.
People no longer have an understanding of what's right and wrong and our society just pats people on the head and say, "it's alright." If I had been in that restaurant, I would have spoken to the manager and would have rallied the rest of the customers together to gather support. The manager couldn't get sued if the whole restaurant were complaining. Actually, I've found most people in this world to be cowards and the minute that someone shows some courage and stands up and says no to this sort of behavior, people will usually back down.

I've had to become very tough where I live in order to have any peace and security. I've confronted parolees and many others who've lived here who thought they would wear me down and I'd eventually back off of my stand but they've all moved and I now have a nice quiet spot. My neighbors are now quiet and the people across the street have learned to be quiet as well. It took calling the police several times a week for over four years but they finally got the message.

If more Christians stood up and began to vote according to the Bible and started praying for this nation the way they are supposed to and getting involved in the political system by running for office in their local arenas, we would have Christians in office making decisions instead of the ungodly. Christians need to be especially careful praying for the judges of this country and voting for them because they control much of what happens in this country.

Anyway, that's my two cents on the matter.

It's about time that someone showed your nephew...

...how to behave in a public place such as a restaurant.

Although I don't think that something such as, "How could you be so dumb as to behave like this in a restaurant!?!" should be said (nor, should you resort to hitting him) there's not a thing wrong with doing as you did:  being very firm with him and letting him know that he was out-of-line in both the words you used and in the meaningful way you escorted him back to his proper seat.

Common courtesy has become so dumbed-down that I've had to put up with so-called adults making a bunch of noise in a restaurant (and encouraging their kids to do the same):

Example:  I was in this one restaurant where the silverware and napkins had been placed in plastic bags.

The entire table (adults and children) blew those plastic bags up like balloons and took turns popping them.

I've popped my share of plastic bags in my life (and don't you just love those packing bubbles!?!), but there's a place for everything, and this was annoying to be going on in a restaurant.

It would have made my day if the manager had arrived at their table and asked them to leave!

Of course, had that happened, they probably would have filed a lawsuit against the establishment!

Want to know what REALLY gets my dander up!?!

It's that blankity-blank-blank-blank! "attractive nuisance" law that says that, if a neighborhood kid manages to get in your swimming pool and drown, you could have the living daylights sued out of you.

This would even be true if the pool were behind a fence, should it turn out that some kid would have the (misused) genius to arrive on the poolside and meet his water-loo there.

I know this to be true, because I know of this family who ended up having to destroy their beautiful private pool because neighbor kids were finding their way into it, even though it was surrounded by a high fence!

Where does personal accountability come into all of this!?!

How do you like these young people (and this includes those of college age where they should be adults) who are always nearly running you down while sailing along on bicycles (Yep!  On the sidewalk!), skateboards, and inline skates!?!

The next phase after that, of course, are those people who are full-fledged adults but drive like Beavis & Butthead, pulling such tricks as tailgating & roaring around you while leaning on their horns and giving you the bird!

Even the way that some of the people down in New Orleans responded to rescue crews could very well stem from growing up with no sense of common courtesy and a big sense of "It's all about me!"

Don't even get me started...

Write On!!!

WhimsyStoryTeller, I'm glad to hear there is something helpful on child care on TV.  I haven't seen it yet, but I will search it out.
