I just think I'll stick to talking
about duck poop. Won't have to worry about hiring guards, then. *grin*

And Pat B I think that people who will stop at nothing to gather their story and then throw themselves into it heart and soul have too little time to attend to their personal life

Pat B, my suspicion about that "great writer" is that his words connect with many people but that on a personal level the results are less satisfactory

if you're a writer
the very work you do is teaching you who you are and what you think. If you are honest with yourself what you say will ring true with other readers. If they are honest with themselves, there is communication, a connection -- which I kinda think is the point. If you worry so much about writing what will please others that you don't let your core beliefs shine through, you're not being fair to yourself or them.
As for the "great writer" you described: if he believes other people only think about sexual pursuit, then it's possible he never really connected with anyone, which is why he's so obsessive about it.

QuirkyAlone, I don't think it was something he could predict would happen. It is a poor show these days that expressing an opinion (which is shared by many, many others) should bring such a vitriolic response.

I'm not sure I'd have the courage to say something that would then require me to be protected in public.

JJWilde, true. Writers with good sense write what they believe. All else is pointless

MayB,
There are some writers with good sense, others with none at all.

Why would it not surprise me if the world was run on the ideas of gurus and such?

Majroj, the writer should speak up I think. It might not be a case of them being able to or even trying to eliminate an inept politician or having any prospect of doing harm BUT it would be worse to let unprofessialism, incompetence and lies go unremarked upon

Probably not.
As I've grown older I have learned that there are some people it is best not to poke unless you are willing to get bitten. Most often either they don't matter, or if they matter they are untouchable. There is a small minority of instances where they can be neutralized or cooled down, and my usual overbearing attitutde does not do the job, unless I've got a bigger ally ready to stomp them already.
Reminds me of Chrics Rock calling "Security" in the movie he played the U.S. President in. High-larious.
But then, Linda Cornwell has all sorts of security whenever she makes a public appearance.
