Thanks for reading!
Scoop, you've lost me. If you're going to make a deal out of "but your crime rate would go down," then why are you ignoring his complete rejection of the idea immediately before? Agreed, it was a dumb thing to say, knowing the viciousness of the political climate today, but you're not telling the whole story.
Debbie, now that you've made that claim, would you please ne so kind as to provide additional evidence to prove that this is a consistent behavior on his part? If it's not, then, I'm sorry, but your statement would be wrong.

My 2 cents
Scoop is correct. He did then add the last line that Rush left out. What these comments do though is betray compassionate conservativism (cc) for what it is(bs).
These comments betray what Bill Bennett believes on a deeper level. He believes that black people are a drain on our economy, provide no value and therefore we wouldn't miss them if they were gone. He is deeply wrong and has made a class issue a race issue. He could have used 'poor' instead of black and then he'd be getting a little less flack. Of course he would still be getting some flack.
Comments such as these from public personalities, should be condemned as this one is being condemned. Even the president has condemned it. But as the point of my recent blog on this very issue says, people who accept the labels of their party, liberal or conservative, have lost the ability to think for themselves.

Scoop
So are you proposing that the crime rate would not go down? What you are proposing is simply more political correctness in order to spare people's feelings from being hurt.
You are completely misunderstanding the context of the comments. He is making the point that the ends do not justify the means in this situation.
I listen to Bill Bennett every morning and you will not find a genuinely nicer person in all of radio. The spinning Scoop, is being done completely by the media and you're doing your part as well.

So why did he say two sentences later
"But your crime rate would go down." When I wrote my post I included the whole deal and left nothing out but when Limbaugh did it he had his engineer stop the tape but did not include the last two sentences. He then spun a web of bull and finally played the last two sentences after he worked his band of idiots into a fever pitch.
Even Bush had something to say about it. It was a stupid statement, and no one don't you get dizzy by doing all this spin.
