I suspect you will not just make friends with these types of post. Whatever would be eventually said, written, I am writing to say congratulations. to date, in parts of Africa, slavery still exist and to an extent that, children whose parents are or were slaves are denied certain previlages or positions. Your article above anything, is just to show that humanity in spite differences in colour are all the same. Well done.

Ma Soom

Thank you for your comment on my post about slavery. I agree with much of what you state, but I must take issue with you on your several points.

As an outside observer, I see little of this self-hatred that you seem to imply is prevalent among Americans of African, or part African, descent, for the evidence seems to imply the opposite.

The so-called diss killing did not originate among white criminals but those of Afro-Caribbean origin. Does not shooting a child becaus it "dissed" you by permitting it's shadow to fall upon you indicate not self-hatred but self-worship? It is autolatry pure and simple, and one can only deduce that such a ming must imagine that it is some kind of god among lesser beings.

In most of my writing here in Blogit, my aim is to offer an impartial and objective view of history, in an effort to heal the hatreds of ages ; not to perpetuate them. One should  not have to wear the mantles of victimhood and villainy forever.

Yes, other nations were also involed in the slave trade.  Indeed slavery continues today in many forms. The issue with American slavery is not just the buying and selling of Africans, but the effect on an entire race of people when their language, religion and even their names are  taken from them.  The continued oppression of African people in American even after the end of slavery is the issue. Unfortunately Africans have been convinced that the nation that they originated from is something to be ashamed of.  That self hatred orignated during slavery.  It continues today and is at the root of many of the problems in American society.

Interesting history, Ariel
I'm curious as to what was the relationship between the Corsairs and the Iberian Moors?

Fascinating read, Ariel70, thanks for educating us!

I agree, Glennb should read this and be enlightened.  Hmmm, do you think the descendents of these white slaves should sue for reparations?  Demand special rights and every form of welfare?

Sadly, what it shows is the depravity all humans are capable of.

I didn't know Muslims practiced slavery too...How sad to know it still exist widely around the world...it makes you wonder whether there will ever be peace within the races. Unfortunately Ariel, sometimes there will exist people who are ignorants and will die ignorants no matter what!

Rame

Just passing thro' right now, but I'll be back a bit later on. Thank you for your comment, and your continuing interest in my blog.

I see my purpose as a writer on history to explore the more little known areas, and to point out that injustice was committed against others by all our ancestors, not just by white people.

In this way perhaps I can introduce a little reasoning into the current racial and religious strife in our lives today. And maybe do my little bit to bring a touch of harmony in it too

Fascinating stuff. I've known of white slave trading but not about its history or the extent to which it has existed over the ages. I will be following your blog closely.
