BrightIrish, thanks very much. Sometimes so much thought gets in the way of living

Pat B, that is a wonderful description, " to be able to walk about in someone else's world"

Masky, yes sometimes I think that too much self-analysis is unhealthy. Thank you for your kind words. You touched me

interesting description Hammock Noweilz, we should all try to take a little dance on water as we write

Word.smith, thanks. People's interpretations vary. My version of making peace would not be where there are no under-currents, and where you don't deliberately bypass people or typecast them. Mine is where you interact as and when in response to the words and thoughts of each other and where a difference of opinion is not tantamount to war.

Yes I have a lot going on right now but don't we all?

Debbie Downer, true and I knew this almost as soon as I was an editor. Often the most competent writers are "promoted" to editor early on in order to raise the standard of the writing, simply to make the text fit to be published

Silvermoon7, it's true I can't control what's in others. Not that I'd want to. I've enough to deal with within myself.

Ca88andra, you make an excellent point. The good that I speak of is to do with dexterity and a highly-developed vocabulary. These are the qualities that inspire me about the writing I most admire

May, what do you classify as good? I think you will find "good" is in the eye of the individual reader. Thomas Hardy wrote books that are considered classics, but I find them to be some of the most boring books I've ever read.

There are many writers who handle the written word a lot less skillfully than you do and they are making a living off of it. But you probably already know that since you've been and editor. Good writing must be in the eye ??? ear??? reading ability??? of the beholder.

Jojostar, that was kind. I must clarify - my advice was not about getting into the biz (unless you want to). It was more to do with trying to think of ways of writing for money based on what you can offer now. Many people who work in other fields have writing sidelines. Unfortunately, writiing as a way to make money, is a poor proposition both full-time and part-time.

Brisbane artist
I think many of the most brilliant writers are incredibly arrogant.

I hope you are not battling too hard in sunny Brisbane.

I think highly enough of you to say that I feel very honored when I find that you have left a comment on one of my blogs.

MayB,

Seems you have a lot going on right now. It's refreshing to see someone who can admit to the mistakes they've made.  You are a big person to reach out to make peace. That is always A+ in my book. Other than that, you inspire me, you've helped me on my continuing journey as a writer, you've given me great advice and I thank you for that.  I appreciate what you write and always learn something from your writing, even if you think you're not a great writer.

These are for you as you fight your way though the mistakes and the corrective measures.

Paradox

Is this just the expression of a paradox.

To be a good writer

one must have humility

you have just expressed your humility

 therefore

you are a good writer

It is hard sometimes to see clearly when we are experienceing life and its difficulties. I have been impressed by your writing many times and I thought you should know that.

I think you're a very good writer. Sometimes I wonder if you enjoy the topics you choose to write about.

By the way, where did your (e) go in the title of your blog? I found that very attractive and stylish.

I respect talented writers like a its not sawdust.
My work will never get the attention that most people prefer. But thats ok, I walk on the trees, and dance on the water.

I LOVE MEST!

welcome
to the human race...  Talent isn't everything (although you have plenty of that). The difference between ordinary and really good writing is the spirit and heart of the writer, her ability to put her world on the page where people can walk around in it.  You do that.

You sell yourself short, yet you also show refreshing humility. You are a fine writer, and you have much to offer in your writing alone--not to mention the advice you have to give--yet you understand a vital life lesson in that, as good as one is, there is always someone better, and With every interaction, we have the opportunity to learn from one another.  As for the peace, even if it can't be attained between two people, the important part is to foster it within yourself, first and last.  You can't control others, but you can control what goes on inside of you.  You go, girl!

You have mail! You have more to offer then you know. For now, I am only a beginner getting my feet wet but with any luck someday I'll move in the biz and your advice will be invaluable.

MayB...it seems you are in the process of learning many important lessons
about life and about yourself.  Though lessons sometimes feel us leaving sad, empty, or confused, they are necessary evils.  I wanted to commend you for your soul searching.  I always wanted to commend you for the pieces you present here on Blogit.  For me, personally, your voice caters to me.  You have certainly opened my eyes to many things I have never thought about before.  You've helped me better myself.  I just wanted to say thank you.
