Original
I'm bad enough, Original, when I have no computer, but Ell, the tech in the family is a snarling pain in the ass.

Sounds like you had a difficult week. I'm sorry. Guess it happens to all of us.

Tell Ell I said "hello!"

Ouch!
Haven't we all been there, both with the computer and home repairs!

I enjoyed all the
underscoring and
Bold and CAPITALS, not to mention the
Italics, Hollee.

A totally non-Zen post McNab--LOL. A good rant is hard to resist.

That used to the way everything was backed up - come to think of it, I still have back ups from a million years ago - on paper

ginnie
That's a good point, ginnie. Apart from the obvious loss of passwords and phone numbers, what else would you lose which is absolutely necessary?

I used to write the first draft of stories and articles longhand, but then it would be by typewriter. I used carbon all the time, ginnie. One of the most amzing things about the computer age is the fact that you can copy and print multiple pages. This begs the question; if things are so much easier in today's world, why don't I churn out more writing - this is a purely rhetorical question, ginnie.

Type John?
Oh! You mean typewriters?

I wasn't much of a writer back when...though I do have pages and pages of hand-written stuff. Did you use carbon? My mother used to type out plays that my Dad wrote...always used several pages of carbon!

Taps
Go out and buy an external backup now, Taps. Imagine having copies of all your work go up in flames. A computer crash is just the same - only a darn sight faster.

Let's say we are barely speaking, ginnie. She is convinced she can bring everything back from never-never land, but I've heard that before. Tell me something, ginnie; did you make carbon copies when you used to type your stories??????????????

I know the feeling about accidentally deleting things, word. I bought the digital camera I have when we were in Australia. We were at a famous tourist spot in the mountains after a fabulous last day of sightseeing near Sydney when I pressed the wrong button on the camera and lost all the snaps. Was I unpopular? You betcha - in fact I'm still getting it cast up to me.

Johnmcnab, I really should be paying attention to what you are saying about the computer stuff and the camera stuff because I have lost an awful lot in the past. But, I never seem to learn that lesson well.

Uh-oh, that's bad stuff Mac!
No photos either? Ugh! Must say I rarely back anything up...don't think I've backed up my writing for at least 6 months. You've got me worried now. Sorry to hear about your losses..and those are huge losses. I'm guessing Ell isnt' your buddy right now! :(

John,
I'm sorry to hear about your troubles, but I'm glad they don't belong to me. Computers crashing are just the pits. I'm still scratching around for stuff I used to have on my work pc, from me unintentionally deleting a whole profile in July!
