Unexpected darkness
puts me in a panic everytime!  It is true that we take these modcons so much for granted. Power cuts become such a major source of annoyance when they do happen.

I think you're right - just a bit freaky yesterday to be plunged into darkness. I cannot begin to imagine what it must be like to be in the middle of a hurricane, earthquake or under attack if just the sudden change had such an effect as that.

Nah, I think we have it better than the cavemen, however, I do think we all take all we have and all we've been given for granted.  It's little things like power outages that jolt us into realizing that.
