LOL.
LOL. Yeah intelligence has always been a problem, just as the concern of the intelligent will always be revealed as foolishness; pretty soon what will we be able to eat.

Well, there's always the classic case
where two men picked up a power lawn mower to carry it--with the blades still moving. That's why they tell you to not do that now.

Here's one for you. I moved from PA to San Diego due to a work situation. One day, I happened to remark to a local girl in my car pool that the weather that day was superb. She replied that it really wasn't good, that it had "insufficient clarity". The reason she said that was she could see a cross on top of a mountain 12 miles away, but she couldn't see it very, very clearly. I got outta there before my brain melted.

Your idea sounds a lot like a pre-emptive DNR strike. Sort of a one-stop thing. I could get behind that.

I can almost see a SIGN that had some sort of warning. I can't tell you the nutty signs we have in Maryland. "Drive Gently" "Agressive Driver Imaging Ahead" ...It's embarrassing.
This was way worse. This was more than a person putting up a sign. People, not a person, strolled around the beach and handed out pamphlets.

Hey--
You don't realize how many tsunami surfers are out there. They even have a club with their name on the back of the jackets.

Your right, no wonder they think we're idiots. Makes me wonder who is in charge of the real safety issues!

the warning signs should be taken down
anyone dumb enough to do some of those things should not remain in the gene pool... Guess you can tell by this that I love reading "News of the Weird."

Well, maybe we can make people wear a "do not rescue" sign.
Trouble is that when the time comes to walk their brave talk, these thrill seekers scream for help and sometimes cost other people their lives, and municipalities a LOT of money.
Here's an administrative equivalent: if you start a forest fire, you are responsible for paying the costs of extinguishment. How many multi-millionaires start forest fires?
OR, maybe it's working after all...?

You know that's a joke my son and I have that if someone is putting the stuff out there, and it looks like a crazy thing to do ---- it still probably means some nut has done it.
I hate the county I live in, and I'm moving as soon as my son graduated. There was a huge article in the weekly paper here about a farmer running over a 12-foot python. Sounds bad enough. The really nutty part is that the Humane Society was quoted as saying they warn people all the time "not to take these pets outside for the sun...then leave them unattended." A 12-FOOT PYTHON! It got better. At the end of the article, the farmer said that now that he was thinking of it, he remembered one of his neighbors saying that his snake had made a run for it.

Unfortunately...
The world will never run out of morons, or if you prefer, thrill seekers.
For some folks, this warning might actually be necessary, but the problem is that the people who most need to heed it will be the ones out there doing it.
Common sense in this world is in short supply.

Yes, it has.
Besides that rarity, every year people walk or crawl out onto low stone jetties to experience the storms, and get washed out.
AND, and...wait for this...divers go scuba diving in restricted zones around the cooling water intakes of coastal power plants. Guess what happens THERE....
Thse are not urban legends.

Terpgirl,
My personal favorites are people who feed bears to get better photos and get munched, or people who drive to volcanoes to get better pictures. Somewhere "reality" just hasn't really set in. It will soon, though.

Must have been a slow news day.

Next week I see the warning for walking barefoot on the beach can be hazardous to your feet.
