jollyjeff,
I knew a lady whose husband thought ear piercing was actually physically harmful. He thought that it would alter the body's meridians, as taught in accupuncture.
Who's to say he wasn't right?

Thanks for posting that so I know I'm not the only one out there that feels like this!

I can think of two things I've bought from there, and...
...I've been happy with all of them.
The first thing was actually bought for me--with a duplicate for my "adopted" brother, Mark. They were matching jackets of a pleasant tan color, and they not only looked attractive but were also nice and durable (lasting for years) and served the purpose of keeping us warm loyally. The matching jackets were a present for us from my folks one Christmas.
I also bought a set that contained lots of beautiful washcloths and towels. Several of those are still holding up after close to 30 years.
As for the jackets...I'm pretty sure that Mark's is history by now, as he's been through at least one house fire and theft.
I think that mine is up at my folks' place somewhere--but, at this time, I'm (obviously) too big to fit into it.
Happy Shopping/Window-Shopping/Non-Shopping!

Georgia,
I expect the Chinese and Indians do think Americans are nuts.
One really good use of all these catalogs is that they make a great cat litter bag bottom liner. Just put the catalog in the bottom of the bag that you'll be pouring the used cat litter in, and it helps absorb moisture (unless it's one of those slick covered catalogs), and it helps the bag stand up better while you're pouring in it.
Huh...maybe I should post that in my pet blog, too.

Hi Songbird
I hate those Fingerhut catalogues! I was on their mailing list for years, and somehow got dropped, thank goodness! I always think of all the Chinese and Indian workers who have to spend their lives in factories making that crap. What must they think of American taste? UGH! Great post!

Catalog shelf
Absolutely right, FactorFiction.
In Mom's mobile home, she has a shelf where there is nothing but calalogs. We keep them awhile, then try to at least dump the duplicates.
Depending on your interests, though, a couple of really useful catalogs are Whatever Works and Drs. Foster and Smith. Whatever Works is sort of a solution catalog, and Foster/Smith has all kinds of pet supplies, and it's run by two actual vets who know their stuff. They even make a line of their own products, usually cheaper than name brand, that's just as good and possibly better. The VitaCal they sell is better than the Nutri-Cal, a formulation made for ailing/non-eating pets.
I better shut up...this is turning into a post.

Oh, you are not kidding.
For the past few days I have been going through the piles of catalogs that accumulated in our house this season. I do need some of them as I prefer to order over the internet and have it come to me rather than deal with wandering aimlessly through stores.
BUT, I do not need 3 copies of the same catalog with different covers. I don't need catalogs of "The most disgusting stuff YOU'd never want." Same for "Extremely Expensive Food with No Taste."
I must have had 3 to 4 feet of paper if you had been able to stack them all up without the sliding. I am still sorting it down to a handful of the ones that make the cut! Oh, but I don't get Fingerhut, thankfully.

Wouldn't worry about feeling offended.
Now that I remember, I did order a sandwich maker from Fingerhut about 20 years ago. It actually did make some tasty sandwiches.
"Thimble?" How weird.

Fingerhut. Now that's one catalog that has NOT ended up in my mailbox. I wonder how I've been overlooked. Should I feel offended?

Renigade3,
I actually bought something from Fingerhut in 1981--towels.
I'm still using them, but they're getting ragged. Think I should order more? LOL

EVerytime I get a Fingerhut catalog, I wonder how on
earth I've managed to survive without all of the stuff in it. Somehow I've
managed not to buy anything, though. Don't know how...

This reminds me of a little poem I wrote in high school:
Fading Love
Sun on the sea, orange on blue
Rainbow and snowflake try to woo
My affections away from all that's neat
Singers, guitars, feeling the beat.
Breathe the beauty inherent of sand
Then leap at the blast of music at hand
The sea rolls too salty, the mist smells too clear
Love for my radio fades from my ear.
