Arial70, I was born 1937.  I very well remember the day that WWII ended and the celebrating in the streets.

Thank you for your comment. You must be nearly as old as I then?

What a wonderful post, Arial70.   Though I was only four years old that year, those things that you wrote about have effected my life in many ways.   May there always be writers like you to help us remember.

Well said, Ariel.   In the movies, we get the impression that good would triumph, good being the Allies, and it was a foregone conclusion.  There were so many sacrifices, so many near misses, that we're lucky we're not all speaking German right now.  (Not that speaking German is a bad thing, in fact, it's a wonderful language, but you know what I mean.).

Ariel, well done...

An interesting read and a great history lesson. When you think about it, this world has seen so man wars and even more loss of valuable lives.  Our countries would not be the same though, were it not for the sacrifices made by soldiers.

Ariel, a marvelous commemoration. We Americans are all in your debt for

posting it. Moreover, I can vouch for its documentary accuracy of fact and mood. I was 10 at the time, under the nazi yoke in France.      ARGUS

HONORED
What an incredible tribute on Veteran's Day. Beautiful and stirring. I would hope that your piece would be read by many, many and appear elsewhere besides here among friends.(And talk about "well researched.")
