...and while you must, and do, let go as they grow, concerned thoughts of them never stop. My now grown son, when a teen, was into cave exploration, which I imagine is not totally unlike a trip in the tube.

I think that we have to start letting go little by little when they are very young, when you leave them with a sitter for instance. It begins very soon but it doesn't get easier

My heart goes out to you my friend. The very toughest part of parenting is "letting go and letting God."
I've had 5 kids and 4 step-kids and they have all gotten on that "train" and all doing quite well and so will yours my friend.
