Welcome, flame-thrower!
You're in the right place for some heated discussion!
Glenn, as I understand it the liberation of Kuwait was primarily an American operation, with the assistance of a number of other coalition members. The UN had some pariticipation, but it wasn't their show. Given Senator Lieberman's opposition to so much of his party's usual opinions, you are sadly right about the venues available for him. Given Shrillary's decision between Senator in New York next year and President (God help us all
) in 2008, will she be a fence-straddler as well if she tries to do both? Corbin is right: If she wants to be President
, she should resign from Senate and not seek re-election.
Xenox, nice to see you supporting President Bush.
That is precisely what the President has said all along, particularly in his statement that, to paraphrase, there will be no clean end to the war on terror like there was in World War I or II. Absolutely right, terror will go on elsewhere until it is eradicated elsewhere. Iraq is the current focus of the war, just as each Pacific island was in succession in the war with Japan.
Glenn, on your most recent comment, I refer you back to Xenox's accurate assessment of the situation and my remarks about it.

Flame-thrower,
That is the prevailing logic in this administration! Well, Hurricanes don't devastate the rest of the country so it must be all well in New Orleans! So Lieberman says all is well in Iraq, Israel and the rest of the Planet?? Then? Why not bring the troops home? The job is done!!
I am sure there are still people willing to pay a nice sum for the Brooklyn Bridge! Can I include you in that esteem group??

Democrats don't like honesty hence they won't give any accolades to Joe for his honesty about Iraq. Iraq has 18 province and only three are restive and in these, three, known as the Sunni triangle, one was the home town of Saddam.Sadly that is where the Democrats and some media have decided to focus. Ignoring a large section of Iraq.It is a pity. Nevertheless, the US is winning whether the Demcrats like it or not.

that if Iraq becomes peaceful then the war on terrorism is at an end? There will be no terrorist strikes any more
not in Indonesia?
Not in Palestine?
Not anywhere else in the world?
we will have defeated terrorists everywhere once Iraq is "pacified"?

So you think someone who runs for President or VP should resign from the Senate like Bob Dole did.......so the people of the state they're from get full representation? Instead of a Senator in absentia like Kerry and Edwards were???

OFFBEATS,
There are not too many places where Joe Lieberman can speak and be considered credible! A man that runs for President and Senator in the same election is a full-blooded fence "straddler"! Senator Lieberman is waiting for the next wind to blow him to the other side!

WriterofLight,
Again you cloud "real" fact with your truth! The "Liberation" of Kuwait was "sold" as a United Nations operation! Now you are saying it was American? Is that why Bush Sr. was able to collect the 4 million dollar bounty? I am offended that Bush Inc. can roam the Planet for profit at the expense of others! Are you?

Thanks, Glenn!
Nothing new about the what the chorus sings, happens all the time. Seems to me "military superiority become a cure for the ills of Iraq" started when we threw Saddam out of Kuwait. wrong about expecting Iraqis to accept the American model of democracy; what is evolving in Iraq is only loosely patterned on American democracy, and has many allowances for the specific needs of Iraq. How long has Israel been involved in the Khuridsh regions of Iraq?

WriterofLight,
I find it very curious that the chorus chooses to sing the tune that fits their agenda! When did military superiority become a cure for the ills of Iraq? Americans were told to dislike Iraq's model under Saddam Hussein and they expect Iraqis to embrace their model under George Bush! Joe Lieberman knows Israel has a strong presence in the Kurdish regions of Iraq! Chop off that section until the oil is depleted, then what?
