Ohmigosh, Quirks!
And I thought I was the only person in America who ate dinner with both hands in the air! I think they are lions ... really, they are! And, *sorry* - I did laugh - out loud!!

Lock'em up in a cage while you eat, Quirky, they'll soon learn that that's
your time and they have their's. Meow!

Sounds like you might be dealing with feline Prader-Willy Syndrome. Or maybe the regular cat food you feed is not acceptable to them.

Bliss is exactly the same....haven't found anything that cat doesn't want....and she'll hook her paw over any glass I'm trying to drink from and yank it toward her....I've had so many spilled glasses in my lap from this little tug-of-war.....and, same problem with the water gun....it works short-term, but then she's right back at it! And, she can open every cabinet....I'm having spring locks installed in the kitchen while I'm working here because I'm so tired of her getting into everything! I have discovered that a nice hard thump on the nose sometimes works for the rest of the meal...... Now, Charm could care less....she just sits there and watches all this with wry amusement......

Quirky,
I hope it works extremely well. Just a thought, when's the last time you checked the cats for worms? Cats that catch critters, especially rabbits, tend to get worms. Shadow

Try telling that to the vet. Pets who are always hungry might need deworming medication. Just a guess.

Well, it's a good thing they are cats and not giant dogs. You would be all bruised and battered! I say lock their butts up in another room while you eat!

Chochi is the same!
She's always starving! And if I go into the kitchen, she's right behind me--meowing her little head off.
And Squeaky always tries to tear open food packages we leave around. AND he loves to dive into the trash to dig out whatever might be edible in there.
UGH!

Aw but it sounds so cute! I think you'd miss it if the little scamps behaved. Maybe you should compromise: start wearing gloves when you eat.

Quirky,
O.K. Battle Plan #2. You have a cat carrier? Good old Rocky hates the cat carrier? So get out the cat carrier set it by your chair and when Rocky starts grabbing, grab him and chuck him in the carrier until the meal is done. He'll eventually figure out that the cat carrier means prison and will at least think about snatching food before he tries. I pull out Purr's carrier and she disappears for hours. LOL Shadow

It's not as bad as it sounds. We feed him special cat food for diabetics (which means we have to feed him seperately) and Queen V administers this medicine that soaks through the skin inside his ear. She has to wear this rubber thingy on her finger because it'll soak through her skin too. It's a little bit of a hassle, but considering the alternative, it's no big deal at all.

Hi Quirky....Cats love chicken so much..I was babysitting once...
many years ago, and the parents had left their KFC leftovers in a box on the fridge. I heard a crash in the kicthen. I ran out to find their two Siamese cats gnoshing on the chicken. They had jumped from the stove to the top of the fridge and knocked down the box, haha. Cats cannot not just look at chicken. They must devour it.

Guess you'd just have to put them in their room...they do have their own room...dont'they? (LOL)

I don't know if you'd like that. Our cats are spoiled rotten. Tipper is a prima dona and a drama queen, Gypsy is clingy, and Midnight is diabetic.

We have three cats, but none of them pull these types of stunts. They never eat "people" food and have no interest in it. Leave a plate within their reach and they'll smell it, but never will they taste. The only exceptions are tuna and shrimp, because we occasionally give it to them as treats.

Quirky,
Its called a water gun. A couple of squirts at the right moment and kitties will be more agreeable about manners. Screaming at them and knocking them down is only going to make them more stubborn. Purr insists on sitting at my feet when I eat and she will rub her face against my leg or the chair but gives up pretty quick, but she damn well knows better than to try and eat out of my plate or try to tear open bags or grab food left unattended. Get a double action gun for Rocky. Its your choice, water gun or continue to be miserable. Use the gun before you sit down to eat on Rocky. Give him some good blasts while carrying your plate and he'll disappear around the corner. You do this on a routine basis and Rocky will wise up. He might get pissed, but so what, he's not going to stay mad or run away from home. Also, if possible feed him in his own dish while you eat. I feed Purr at the same time I eat. She might beg for a couple of moments, but will retire when she realizes she's got her own meal and I'm not sharing. Shadow
