Feedback is good sometimes
especially from the clean distance of a sympathetic editor. We must get too close to our stuff or it doesn't mean anything. Long time ago a friend talked to me about writing - his advice was to "murder your darlings." What he meant was to take that really beautiful turn of phrase that sounds so good to you, but which is taking away from the flow, and get rid of it. Anyone who thinks the process is easy hasn't actually done it. Congrats, May-B. :)pat

It is nice to have somebody to bounce
your work and thoughts off. It's so easy to get wrapped up looking at things the way that YOU look at things that it is easy to forget that YOU won't be the person reading it.
Interesting topic, May.

Yeah, it's winking. Dr JPT..
I remember having to battle with my instructors over papers. If I did as they told me, it was an endless succession of fine tunings, sometimes to their own suggestions, the result was never better than a "C", and they would comment about originality. If I didn't do as they said but tried to get the general gist of what they tought needed helping, I would get a "D", but a comment about how original or good my ideas were.
Maybe that's why I hate being "proctored".
Thanks for fixing my neuroses! Where do Ileave the check?
(Of course, 10% to MayB...)

You Are Fortunate
When my dissertation was edited, I know what it is like to receive suggestions or corrections. I learned quickly to just do it. When finished, what a relief!! Best to you!!

One has to be detached enough to accept and use the feedback.

My wife is very blunt...
When it comes to a critique of my work and she can spot spelling errors from 100 yards. Thank you for the photo comment, I did post.

Enjoyed your story...in depth look at what it takes to crank out
A decent piece of work...I always try to get input from the (few) intelligent people around...it's a gift that not many seem to have....that editing thing.

I can imagine your delirium - and hunger - when the editor said '
The piece works well.' Many, many congrats. You are now in with the 'in' crowd, MayB.

I also get shy showing others my work before it is printed
and even afterwards I make excuses and say that it's not my best work, even though I think it is.
I even do this with my boyfriend.

I have a good friend who is a great writer
but I am still a little shy sending my stuff to them. I know I need to get over it, but it is hard.
