Wow! You just made me realize why an MP3 player might be useful on a telephone. A few weeks ago, I went shopping for a new cellphone, and I saw the new ones that had an mp3 in it. I thought it was sooooo silly. Now you've made me seen a huge benefit of having one in your phone.

Makes interesting reading, MayB! I haven't a iPod yet, but perhaps I'll have to get me one in the (near) future!

Technology is more than swell eh MayB?
I'm just learning my way around the ipod....damn thing is amazing! So sweet to have your kid's immortalized on 'tape' too! I had one of my daughter when she first started to talk...some 28 years ago..but the tape broke years ago...the stuff is so much better now!!!

That was interesting. The day will soon arrive when the ipod becomes the norm for everyone.

BlancheDubois, I haven't yet recorded from phone to computer
but I see that as a way of getting stuff across before getting back to download

Kingmi, Mysteria, JohnMcNab, the microphone is a separate accessory
for the iPod. Other mp3s have them too I believe - not sure if they are separate

Of course I've heard of, and read about, iPods, but I have never had any notion of buying one. Your post has got me interested, and I am going to look them up and find out more about them. Thank you MayB.

I didn't think it was so long
I was messing around with my cell phone and taped my cat's voice. When I was away from her, I played it back and it helped me be less homesick. My point is that it started me thinking of getting some sort of recoding device. Ipod is currently in the lead as far as these go and I think this may have pushed it so firmly into first that I may not look further.

I didn't know Ipods did that...
Now if you just had a voice activated program on your computer, you could play back the interview to your computer microphone and then just edit... Although there's a drawback. Those voice programs tend to make some very strange and funny mistakes, and the editing can take longer than transcribing by keyboard. Thanks for the info -- I'm going to have to check that Ipod thing... :)pat

tried to comment earlier
and had a complete computer meltdown that conicided with a child meltdown! lol... I have just started using the mic on my MP3 player (OK it was to record emily telling knock-knock jokes) but I can see how this would be a great tool during an interview.
