I think we always need a couple of bigger horizons to focus on

Dr JPT, that is a good question. The only time when it doesn't apply ...
so well is when people are ill. I was seriously ill a few years and suddenly I was doing nothing lately. That is hard when you have to let your work go

Avant-garde, there is always someone just as capable
even when we are still there. I think people often lose sight of that. I find that in life we have turns at doing things. For some reason or other a role becomes ours for a short time

Pat_B, I think it is a sense of belonging within a group

Definitely yes Ginnieb
When I go to other places I see that and when I teach I see it most because then I am reminded of myself before that time

Would you say it molded you Azur....
...to who you are as a writer today?  Of course everything we do moulds us into the 'who' we are today I suppose.  If we stop recognizing that then perhaps we wouldn't grow.  We gather and then hopefully, we disperse.

Laurels?
What laurels?  That was then. This is now.

The feeling you had while "in"
is that sense ownership. It's the hardest thing to give up when you leave a job. Well, yes, not having a regular paycheck can be hard, but the give-take, the play and the players, that's what leaves a hole.

Azur
I experienced this on a different level when I left the fire department. I understand the emotional attachment all too well. I'm sure that someone just as capable is in my slot now.

I Have Been There and Understand!!
A college professor warned to not do that for the true question is "What have you done lately"!  That has kept me grounded and not resting on them for I need to make a new set daily or as often as possible. Good post!

Azur--- Thanks for the Reminder. I'm Become Extremely Comfortable with my
Success as a freelance writer. But it's definitely not all that I want to accomplish. I need a good kick in the ass every now and then. Your foot fit nicely.
