Genius,
My guess is somehow it saves the food companies money.  Maybe the beetles are cheaper than vegetable coloring.  This old sad world is motivated by money.

Bunny,
We really do need to spread the word.  I'm going to watch the news for updates.

fionajean,
I realize other cultures eat these sort of things;  we should, however, be warned on the labels so we can make the decision whether to ingest the beetles.

Taps,
Sounds like a good excuse to me!  Go for it!

why?
how do people sleep at night knowing that they just sold someone bugs?  Who even thought to add bugs to food?  It just doesn't make any sense.

From Bunny
When I read this, the first thing I did is check it out on Snopes, and it's true!

I am of two minds about this. Okay, three:

1. I am totally angry that this is not clearly marked on labels. People with health problems need to have clear labels. So do people who avoid animal products for whatever reason.

2. I am not totally grossed out about it. My own diet is so restricted due to health problems that I am interested in any new food I can eat, and bugs and worms don't disgust me. Unfortunately I never seem to get the chance to try any exotic new animals because they all seemed to be covered in chocolate, which I definitely cannot have.

3. It sounds like they have very poor quality control, if poisonous eggs are getting in there!

I'm glad you posted this; I'm going to warn my friends.

Hi,
You know, beetles are a delicacy in some parts of the world. But that is totally gross. Maybe there's something to be said for growing your own veggies, etc and buying natural food.

songbirdshafer, Do you suppose that might be what has made me
gain some weight this winter too?   I need to blame it on something.

ms bradrock,
The thing about the beetles gets me more worked up than the beer chicken because it's maliciously done, absolutely intentional, and it's been happening under our noses without us having a clue.

I really think I will rattle my Congressional Rep's cage and bring it to his attention.  We all deserve accurate food labels.

Anthony,
You're welcome.  I almost couldn't believe it when I heard about the beetles, then someone sent me the link on the story.
