I must be part of that 1% (LOL)
The only reason I have even a rudimentary knowledge of Latin is because I wanted to be able to figure out my prescriptions (a goodly chunk of which are written in Latin-based abbreviations). I'd fail geometry, probably - almost did in high school - but the music and language requirements would be sheer joy. Foriegn languages were never a problem for me. I agree that we are dumbing down our curriculum, and additionally, we are very worried about our children's socialization skills while forgetting that they might actually need to read job applications, fill them out accurately and completely, and balance our checkbooks when we get those jobs.

This is just another example of our educational system "dumbing down" for money.
