- Go to Do Animals have Souls?
Sannhet....
Wow! I guess this is synchronicity. I am in the process of writing a post on the souls of animals! I do believe they all have souls as they were created by God just as we were. Many people will disagree feeling that only humans have souls. I'll go one better, I believe they go through the reincarnation process as well, however a little differently! Stay tuned. Good post as always!

I looked for that comment, but couldn't find it. I'd really like to read your thoughts. I'll keep looking.

That's a good definition. The question then becomes is each "spirit body" imbued with the same stuff as ours?

Yes, I've thought about that as well. I do think every living thing has a life force though, so I should feel bad any time I've snuffed out a life.

I'm with you on that. It does require a definition of what a soul is. And I think self-awareness is a good start.

you can check it out -- basic usage of the word, "soul", and showing that it refers to animals too.
question is what do we really have?

I believe that every 'thing' has a spirit body that exists outside the realm of what we see with our own bodies.

I am hoping that it is not "every living thing"
has a soul. Because then I will feel guilty forever about the bugs that I have squished, bees I have swatted, mice whose demise I have been responsible for, etc....

sannhet -- the notion of animals having what is described as a soul by some
religions is not that absurd if one thinks about it. As humans we have seperated ourselves from all species we have determined are non sentient but have learned in recent years that some animals have sophisticated means of communication and social structures. At what point does an animal qualify to have a soul? (again using a traditional religious definition) If the answer is to utilize the timeworn concept of "self awareness", then we would have to include a number of other species on this planet. It is only within the constructs of religion that the seperation between man the animal, as created by a God, elevates our species above all other animals. Besides, it makes eating a cheeseburger a whole lot easier if we don't have to consider what we are eating as our spiritual equal.
