Sannhet-man!

  Great post.

I also believe that animals have souls or "spirits" but not simply as an extension of the mind, as you suggest. The spirit is also an extension of the body. In fact, the physical aspect of all creatures (and places, for that matter) is what is most important in the formation of the spirit. The mind has as much influence on the spirit as it does on the function of the heart, for instance. The spirit, like the heart, reflects how well we take care of ourselves in the long run. It is not affected very much by the occasional act of kindness (or cruelty). And our spirit does not die if we do not have ability to think, or love, or show intelligence. Conversely, intelligence and morality are not “tests” to determine if a spirit exists within a creature.

I love this last post. My cat would agree.
Thank you for turning me on to your site.  Animals certainly are more like us than many would care to believe.
