Azur
When I was an executive, I read, (and carried ostentatiously) The Scotsman, because it was expected - apart from which I loved the crosswords.  In a new country it didn't take me long to work out which one I 'should' read, so I read them all.

I'll read anything Azur ;)
at least once and some "guilty pleasures" I return to, albeit silently. (Like sappy romance novels, celebrity gossip sheets....)

I just do what I want. People make judgements anyway, based on looks, mannerisms, etc...I've found that half the people who would judge me just based on what I was reading in a negative manner, are really not people I would care to associate with, but there are stores I never want to be seen going into!

Azur
my guilty pleasure, when I'm on holidays, is to buy People magazine and read all the gossip and trash. It's light and fun. I have also been known to read trashy romance novels. Why not - I don't read them all the time, but they are quick, easy, and have a happy ending - with two little kids a happy ending is something that I really need sometimes! (not to mention that it doesn't matter if I lose my page! lol!)

Axur--- I'm too cool to read anything with "Bush" or "Cheney" in the
headline.

I'm always embarassed if anyone sees my buyin "US" magazine.

It's trash, and I know it's trash.  But yet I enjoy it anyway.  Gives me a reprieve from the brevity of parenthood...

Good post.

I apologize for the nasty overtone of my last comments.

From now on I take a nap before commenting!!

Azur,
I like to read a little bit of this and a little bit of that...The problem is I always feel as though I'm slighting someone if I don't comment, but right now time is not on my side. I came out of retirement and back into the classroom a few weeks back to help a friend...Oh well, enough of this rambling...and thanks for stopping by and reading my post. I'll let you know how the book proceeds.

Cool enough for what?

I'm "cool" enough to hold the broken halves of your leg together and direct someone how to duct tape it for transport.

I'll read anyone's blog I want to.

I just don't want to any more because most of it isn't worth the time.

How about "discriminating" or "prejudiced" or "jaundiced" instead?

This concept seems to be an extension of "A man is known by the company he
keeps"

Azur - Don't you just hate finding your text was nuts AFTER you hit Add?
(Please forgive my SCREAMING ET AL in the previous comment.)

Azur - I think too that we get in ruts. Just like on Blogit, we find

... rourselves reading specific bloggers, and avoiding others. This week I bumped into some great blogs I can't recommend strongly enough.Preconceived attitudes and notions make us miss much.

Disabled Kevin Thinks  (fastinating view from the UK; challenged, intelligent, and well traveled)

Romantic Shorts (who has the short romantic tale down pat: could branch out, has the structure)

brettnik  Is a great writer, and seems really sane besides! (big benny)

And many more. I've told myself that every time I'm on Blogit, I will read someone I dont' generally read.

But, please, if you want to be read, take pride in your product, have respect for your readers, and even if you decide to spew garbage, do it with respect for the language, and with a bit of panache. Sometimes you can make it on style even when your content or message suck.

Interesting thoughts...
I don't really like to be seen reading the tabloid mags but sometimes they are entertaining...everything in moderation, right? I wonder whose blogs would be considered tabloid-ish here...lol.

Good post
I really used to care but as I get older for some reason I don't care in general what other people think of me in terms of my intellect.

I read EVERYTHING I can get my hands on.  I read the Nat Enquirer if it's around or Forbes or Architectural Digest.  I read  "fine literature", detective novels and once in a while I'll read a comic book.  Same with television. I don't watch too much TV in general anymore but when I do watch I'll watch anything from  The History Channel, American Idol, The West Wing, Buffy, Public Television to reruns of Bonanza.

Ya...we're basically all nuts!
Hi Azur!  I'm so that way too and it is silly.  WHen I"m on a plane I do glance around to see what people are reading and then I figure there is no way I can make judgement calls based only on their reading material and yet I think people do that of me!  Nuts...I'm know I"m nuts!

It is amazing (and sickening) how much we care about what other people think. Especially if it really isn't a big deal. But I know I worry what impression people will get of me...like if my fiance is saying something weird in public! I know what he means, but I catch myself shushing him because I'm worried what other people will think.

I Read a Variety
It does not bother me who knows what I read!  I feel it is my choice and right.  Everyone gets something different as you mentioned and I read for my benefit. Thought provoking post!
