Hi,
If we talked, you would hear my Polish accent, I have been working on my accent, but it is still heard that my origin is Polish, unfortunately.

When I speak English I'd like to sound British...

Nanaroo,
For some weird reason, a lot of people ask me what country I'm from, thinking I have a British or European accent. I grew up in Oregon, so I don't really know exactly why that is.

Nanaroo,
Great post here! I often "stick out like a sore thumb" here in Tampa due to my so-called "Chicago accent." Well, I have lived here for 11 years and have made an effort not to pick up a southern accent (No offense to you southern folks!) I don't hear my "accent" but I guess many others do. Oh well, guess that's what makes us all unique individuals in Blogitville, huh?

Nan--- I've been told that I have a good broadcast voice, but it's not
deep. I tend to mimick accents, so, around here, I speak with a bit of a southern Midwest twang.

very descriptive! Growing up in the midwest- I gradually got the 'ya you betcha' and 'heck of a deal' out of my vocabulary but I miss those phrases..

Mutt Speak
The first 6 years of my life were spent in Northern Florida...which is the same as Southern Alabama. When I learned to speak I had a very deep south southern accent. At 6 we moved to Indiana where they could not understand a word we were saying. My brother and I were promptly put into speech thearpy classes to rid us of our accents and replace them with a good ole fashioned Mid-Western accent don't cha know? Now I live in California and when someone asks me where my accent is from, I have to ask them what they hear, because I don't know which one is coming out. Usually if I'm really angry my southern accent will come out and people get really caught off guard, including myself. But if you were to call me on the phone, you'd most likely ask to speak to my mother, because I tend to sound very young...although I'm not sure why!

I guess I have a soft southern drawl.
I'm conscientious about it and try not to sound like a "Hick". My cell # runs at the bottom of all my emails, so you can call me if you like. I'm not one of those "Frightened People" that won't even tell you the name of the household you've reached when you get their answering machine.
I've always loved Lily. What ever happened to her?

Nanaroo...
I've been told that my voice is soft and young sounding. Some people with hearing difficulties, say that sometimes my soft tone, rather than low volume is hard for them to hear. I speak clearly, but not really loud.

southern drawls have it so far...
thank you for all the info about your voices, bloggers! So far, I've heard lots of southern drawls (an accent that I love and would dearly like to be able to imitate), a British cockney accent (you know who that is) and a variety of others. My ears are perking up...

Nanaroo..........My Dad's family were Polish and New Yorker's. They had strong New York accents. My grandparents were also Polish. Being around them so much, you would think I would of picked it up, but I didn't.

Nice Post.. I like Her Humor
I have a normal voice, often soft spoken, yet commands attention with little effort. I have never understood why. It may be because people need to listen to hear it.

I've been told I sound like a cross between a surfer dude and
a weather man. I was born in Alabama, lived in several different places before my folks settled back home in South Carolina. My mother, now, has one of the greatest southern accents you can ever hope to hear -- her voice just drips magnolia blossoms.

P.S.
I got so caught up in the Lily Thompson memories that I forgot to say what my accent is ... I guess that since I'm a southern transplant, I've picked up a bit of a drawl ... but I really don't know for sure!

when I went to college, I realized that I have no accent... I was told
that by quite a few people. I'm not sure why that is? My voice is just normal, I guess? LOL Alto though... not a soprano. I'm boring...

I don't think I have an accent but then everybody says that now and then. Lily Tomlin working for the phone company is about as funny as you can get. I don't know if she actually said this but I think on Laugh In she once said, "I can do what with the telephone?"

I love #7! I've talked to Spitfire70 and Temple on the phone. Spiffy definitely sounds like she is from Chicago, and Temple doesn't have an accent at all. She told me she couldn't tell I was from Texas until the second time I talked to her. I was upset and tired as I was having my dog put to sleep later than day and she said the "Texan" came through just a little bit. I thought that was odd....I'm curious aobut people's voices too.
