Democracy needs certain pre-conditions to be met before it can take hold, such as peace, a desire to get along together, and a broad concensus as to what the future of the country looks like. None of these exist in Iraq today.
Did you know - prior to Gulf War I, Iraq had the highest living standard for the most people of any country in the Middle East? Now, it's a violent, bombed-out shell of its former self.
But hey - at least it's democratic! And at least Big Oil have their grubby little mits on the oil wells now. So it's not all bad
