Teaching our children real skills.
If we want our children to do better in school, and achieve a higher standard of education then we start by teaching them to turn off the TV and the video games. We teach them that "No" means "No". We teach them that respect is earned it's not demanded. We teach them that mangling the English language is not creative communication, but a testimony to failure. And finally, perhaps most importantly, we teach ourselves that our children are the reflection of the effort we have put into raising them, if they are turning out like crap, well perhaps we're not doing our part. I wish you peace and understanding. Arley White

MsBradrock, probably not -- you see when you and I were in school,
the emphasis was on learning and mastering the material not necessarily passing standarized test -- yes, there are good teachers but they are being limited by so much emphasis on testing rather than actual teaching!

Moutainclimber,
What the report fails to say is that there are many teachers of excellence out there who haven't given up and who still teach like those of yesterday. True, there are some who go into the profession for all of the wrong reasons, but let's not forget the ones who are still giving it there all. Teaching certainly isn't what it once was, but now that I think about it...neither is the media reporting this "breaking news." And I have to ask myself...Could those reporters pass the exam?
