As I have yet to hear from my mother (and, I know she would have seen this by now). So, I'll likely be logging off suddenly around 4 (when she comes home from work) ... to go hide under my bed.

MPO, I've never tried any Joyce Carol Oates before either, so will give her a go sometime, on your recommendation. Yes, an outside link could be a good idea, or why not copy in certain items to a new blog here.

I had not heard of Lesley Glaister before, Dave.
So I'll have to try and dig her up.
The style sounds very similar, however, to that of my all time favorite work of fiction, "I Am No One You Know" by Joyce Carol Oates; a hauntingly sad and frighteningly scary book which I would recommend to everyone. It's a collection of interconnected short stories, so you'll know fairly quickly if you wish to proceed further.
Meanwhile, I hear what you're saying about the literary "springboard". Perhaps a link (from the shorter Blog It post) to an outside website is the logical compromise.

Brilliant! Pure brilliance! Ebert and Roeper give it two thumbs way, WAY UP! Seriously.. I never laughed so hard for such a very short period of time (about two seconds, give or take) in my life. Awesome. Awe-inspiring. I am in awe. It was not awful. A joke like that can at times go awry, but not yours. Heh heh... wow, this is awkward...

MPO, don't know if you've ever read any Lesley Glaister. Her macabre novels often start with something shocking and then delve into stories about families and hidden pasts. It struck me as that kind of an opener. You could do something with it, but if it's only going to be a shock-joke, then so be it. Yes, short posts do prosper, but that 'wow factor' in its many forms can often be a springboard for us to do further writing for a more 'serious' intent. I find this anyway. Some stuff I say in comments now almost feels like me practising for the wider world of writing and I will sometimes record something in my notebook for future use. I've rambled off the point now and have started talking about myself. Adieu for now.

I tend to have two versions of all my "journal-ish" posts, such as this or the "Bird Flu" one ( http://www.blogit.com/Blogs/Blog.aspx/LifeBlog/349649 )
I post the shorter ones on Blog It, because (quite frankly) that's what seems to "sell" here.
