Thanks, kingmi, for your thoughts in the debate.
In the end -- red, yellow, black or white we are precious in God's sight (my belief). It's easy to get hung up on the whole amnesty for illegals (and other racial debates that are currently raging), while losing focus on some very basic principles of humanity.

(back at you)

Jane'sO, Your experiences ring true! There is no trust
Level. However unscientific or unequal due to your position in management, I think you have a great opportunity to open doors! Thanks for contributing to the debate! Love ya'!

kingmi, I cannot speak for children, since I don't have any
but I can speak for myself. I find the whole race issue fascinating, particularly whites vs blacks. I have tried to be one who would sit down in a group of blacks and have lunch with them . . . but have found that multiple attempts at joining in, getting into their space, etc have been rebuffed. For sure there's a comfort level amongst blacks hanging out with other blacks. I can appreciate that; however, I think that the whole race issue needs to go BOTH ways for progress to be made. It's one thing for whites to make an attempt to reach out but in order for there to be progress, it would be helpful for blacks to reciprocate and at least show an interest or SOMETHING! Make sense?
That said, I have had good success with my job as a nurse practitioner. I reach out to the aides and nurses, many of whom are black, and really try to connect. But in a way, that's not fair. I'm in a position to give orders, and they are expected to take them, so it's not a totally equal relationship. However, I think they have picked up on the fact that I DO respect them for the job they do and the extraordinary value they bring simply as fellow humans.
Oy veh, such a complex issue.

Kingmi - I think people of color (regardless of nationality) ...
congregate with their own because they are repeatedly made to feel like they are not wanted ... It may have nothing to do with race. A percentage of wealthy and middle class whites seemingly have always needed a whipping boy to feel better about themselves.
