I was only joking, Uncle Dave ...
And I did read it (yesterday).  It was hilarious.

MPO, that link takes you to a blog that's somewhat neglected.
Your click might make it move up to #753 perhaps. Enjoy, if you go.

Cool! Thanks for the link ...
Hey, wait a minute!  Is this some sort of a "bonus click" trick?

MPO, glad you told me about this. Funny.
And you know - idle minds think alike - took me a bit of rummaging to find it, but try this permalink. There are some other posts around that one you might like too.

Well, it may not be an exact tally, Una ...

but it, at least, offers a rough idea of who I've been reading and how much, anyway.

posted by Mademoiselle on April 5, 2006 at 9:11 AM | link to this | reply

Humorous post!
You can keep an exact count of the pages read. Amazing!  I like Virginia Woolf.

Thank you so much, Vangelina ...
I really appreciate your saying so.

What does the "star" emoticon mean?

posted by Mademoiselle on April 4, 2006 at 9:38 AM | link to this | reply

I know it's not the type of comic you're referring to, Mason ...
however, my list would have included "The Philadelphia Inquirer's Sunday Comics minus Fred Basset", but that title took up too much space.

I don't know, TAPS- ...
probably watch a lot more television, I guess.

BlackPearl, I believe Oates is the greatest "portrait artist (of unpleasant people)" I've ever read.

Hi there
I've read quiet abit of your blog, and lol, I enjoy your sense of humor, I have been laughing my head off and now my head needs a painkiller, as if I don't take enough. Thanks for your funny comment on my blog, lol, I loved it. I will now be back to read your blog, so keep up the good humor as I need the laughs and it is also very good though, thanks for a great blog, V.

M.P.O.
What on earth would we do if we couldn't read?

M.P.O.,
Sounds like you've been busy.  I really like Joyce Carol Oates.  Well, I guess I like all of the names on the list that I recognize.  I really like the way Joyce Carol Oates develops her characters and makes you really like them or really loathe and despise them.  Well, speedy recovery to you.  :)

editor's note:
While sitting here, I just read "Oh, The Places You'll Go!".  I only scanned through it though (seeing as I was reading it for the 800th time) ... thus, I've amended my list to reflect both these facts.

I have read him in the past, Nanaroo ...

though not very recently.

Meanwhile, as with many great authors, his work has been translated into movies both great ("The Right Stuff") and small ("The Bonfire of the Vanities").

M.P.O.
I love your sense of humor!
Do you read Tom Wolfe?  ( I really liked his, "A Man in Full" book)

posted by Nanaroo on April 3, 2006 at 11:48 AM | link to this | reply

Yes, it is an impressive list ...

I should also mention that Roger Ebert's "The Great Movies II" is a fabulous book.  In fact, I would go so far as to suggest it's the equal of his previous work, "The Great Movies I".

I wouldn't necessarily call her my hero, Kingmi ...

though I do enjoy her work.  As I do George Will's (and even Rush Limbaugh's).

I just don't completely agree with the opinions expressed... by any of them.

Very funny, Gulliver.

The answer lies in a very subtle change I've made to this blog (befitting it's new purpose/subject matter) ... a change which I was going to mention here ... but now, you'll just have to search around for it.

MPOl, Ok, so Maureen Dowd is your hero! That clears
A lot up for me! LOL

“a much more substantive piece…”

Just to clarify: will the level of substance to this upcoming blog be more along the lines of:

My Top Ten Favorite Blog Posts

or:

Ten Best Numbers 1-10

(LOL…you can email me to “shut the f*#k up” if you want.)

To whom it may concern:
I have a much more substantive piece to be posted at my usual time tonight.  The injury fucked up my schedule a bit, and thus I need to "get it back on track".

I know, Gulliver. A couple people (in this household) have told me ...

that my list doesn't add up.  But they didn't realize what you did ... that this is based on a 100% of my overall day.

And once again, including online viewing would have "complicated things" too much.

10.16%

So what do you do with the other 89.84% of your time?  Ahhh, I'm flattered.  you must be spending the rest of your free time reading the best of Aliduke's Tower!

That is so nice of you!

Hope you start feeling better soon!

As I always try to do, Rcky.

Wow, scriber!  A correspondent for Time?  Really?

Meanwhile, Oates' "I Am No One You Know" is my all-time favorite work of fiction.  And "The Female of the Species" (which I'm currently wrapping up) is no slouch, either.

Now that's taking a negative situation and turning it into a positive one!
LOL

Thank you, Rcky ...
I'm growing more and more accustomed to using my left hand with each passing moment ... in fact, by the time I return to full strength, I'll likely be completely ambidextrous.

If I included the online stuff, fourcats ...
the list would then also have to include all the porn sites I visit.

Some good reading: my connection: I live across the river from
where Oates lived and worked in Canada. I worked for good long time as Time correspondent.
