Actually, Nanaroo ...

At one point, I had several posts with 75+ frickin' comments, so ... the more the merrier.

Apparently, it takes more than practice, A + B.

I think that's probably a good idea, Layla.

I'm the exact same way, Frankenkitty ...

I have no attention span/mental focus whatsoever.

It's why I'm such a menace on the roadways.  Well, one of the reasons, anyway.

posted by Mademoiselle on April 6, 2006 at 9:27 PM | link to this | reply

Well, when you put it that way, FoF ...

it sounds like a bad idea.

It's the thought that counts...just order something next time.  It's so much easier that way...!!!

That sucks about your cake.
Baking is tough for me.  I've even messed up brownies from a box and pre-cut, pre-shaped cookies where all you have to do is plop them on the pan.  I think the problem is that I get distracted too easily while waiting for things to cook.  The timer goes off and I don't even acknowledge it because I'm in the middle of something else.  OH well.  I guess people will have to love me for my eternal optimism.  I know, I'm in trouble.Take care MPO

So you were trying to bake one handed after the blender
incident, and while taking painkillers, with a cat weaving between your feet, and with an open flame involved?

I don't think she has to worry about that, Tanree ...

There won't be any grandchildren springing forth out of me, anyway.

Fortunately, my brother will undoubtedly pick up the slack by fathering, at least, ten (from ten different women).  Twelve, if he's not careful.

posted by Mademoiselle on April 6, 2006 at 10:13 AM | link to this | reply

MPO: ?!?!?!
Your own mother! She does realize that that is grounds for withholding her interaction with future grandchildren, doesn't she? Not wise! Not wise!

Captain
I sure hope it wasn't your wife who made them. It would be very hard to stay alive for the long haul if even her rice crispy treats turned out that bad!

I've gnawed on some Rice Crispy Treats that should have been registered as a dangerous weapon with the county.

May I suggest rice crispy treats next time. It's hard to screw those up! But, then again, my sister-in-law did manage it. You could just buy something from the bakery and pass it off as your own! :)

No, Jack ... sadly, I've decided to retire forever from the "world of baking".

Oh, and, fortunately, we do have a sprinkler system in the unlikely chance inspiration should ever strike me again.

I absolutely love to bake, and can do it, but watch me burn water, seriously now, in a heartbeat.

You know M.P.O.

They say cooking is an art but baking is a science...so I stick to the exact measurements in most cases.  A chocolate fruitcake???? Why oh Why a fruitcake? LOL

The baking time might need adjustment. I underestimate them to prevent burning.

Thanks for your suggestion to color the comic. Your bonus is here.

MPO,
If you are going to be taking up Chef Extraordinaire training, I highly recommend an investment in fire extinguishers.  Maybe even a sprinkler system hanging from your ceiling.  Check with your local fire station to see what type of extinguishers they recommend.

CHOCOLATE FRUITCAKE RECIPE
You will need:

1 cup butter

6 ounces chocolate

1 1/2 cups sugar

3 large eggs

1 cup flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup halved red cherries

1 cup halved green cherries

1/2 cup chopped pineapple

1 1/2 cups walnuts or pecans

Instructions:

1. In a large saucepan, melt the butter and chocolate together over a low heat. Stir often.

2. Remove from heat,

3. Let stand for about 15 minutes.

4. Stir in sugar.

5. Begin adding eggs, one by one. Be sure to stir each egg thoroughly.

6. Blend in the flour and salt.

7. Add the fruits and nuts.

8. Pour mixture into 4 greased and floured 5 x 3 x 2-inch loaf pans.

9. Bake at 350° for 35 minutes or until you can stick a fork in it.

10. Cool in pans on wire racks 10 minutes; remove from pans, and cool on wire racks.

Seal cakes in heavy-duty plastic wrap and chill thoroughly before cutting. Garnish with candied cherries, if desired.

Makes four loaves (which can be frozen).
