MedusaNextDoor, it is easy for people to kid themselves that this is
enough. It is if you seek fun and a bit of interaction but not for anyone who wants to take their writing to another level. I think it is a good venue to learn to construct articles however to really benefit from it requires self-discipline.

Azur...Now this was a super post..You said what I've been unable to express
I agree with every line you so nicely strung together to make an excellent point.....I, too, crave real feedback, and do get it from very few readers here. You are so right....writing is more than just hitting the top of Blogit...There is so much to style, sentence structure, thought, etc. I have been saying in my last few comments at my own blogs, that I could have spent a longer time with each post. I get sloppy when I want badly to get a blog "passed in." I should spend more time carefully examining my work. Popularity doesn't always mean the writing is great, as I've tried to unsuccessfully imply here many times. I am serious about my writing.

blackpearl1, thank you. I think it is easy to become complacent here
I don't mind giving people a virtual shove. I'd rather irritate them a little then see them move up to better things than utter platitudes and leave them on a plateau
I'll be there .
Of course you
I'll check it out

majroj says to use salacious subject lines.
We were discussing something like that on Gomedome's sphincter blog (not as bad as it sounds).

Azur,
This is a great post, with really sound advice and keen observations for those of us who want to take our writing to the next level. Wherever one's "top" spot is, I think that it takes one step at a time, those steps being perseverance, dedication, discipline, and consistency, if we can manage to muster it. Sometimes, I wish someone would come along and just give me a good push, when I'm feeling sluggish. Being at Blogit has helped, but I think I may need more pushing soon. Thanks. :)

I am not thinking purely about grammar and punctuation, In fact the last thing I want is for it to become some kind of school but it's also about how we put together our thoughts a

Azur,
I'd like more feedback on grammar or style, but you're right, it's usually not done. I generally churn and not edit, but I'm starting to notice that I have no idea about certain rules of punctuation and style, such as commas, clauses, conjunctions, and semi-colons and colons. I probably need to take a refresher course.

I think it's fine for fun just so long as one doesn't lose slight of the standards required out there. Of course there are many people who blog but who have no aspirations to write.

Randomness plays a big part here, the random nature of crowds and how they gather

Loyalty is a tricky thing in that once we are loyal it is hard to appear to withdraw our enthusiasm however I think that to be a true friend we should be measured and balanced in our commentary. In many cases here we get used to people's style and we like it so we can no longer see how the writer could improve. Maybe we need to step back from time to time and then return to reading the work from a fresh perspective

Azur--- Good post on the perils of blogging. As a professional
writer, I try not to let my standards slip here. But then I read something that someone has dashed out in minutes--- maybe even seconds--- and I start to hav doubts about the value of continuing to do this. But, for now anyway, it's still fun.

Words of truth and wisdom Azur!
Everything you said here is spot on. My goal is to turn blogit off when I am writing other stuff so I'm not tempted to hang out! I flip back and forth too often but I don't think I could live without it...not now at least. I have just begun to submit articles to mags again...after a year's lull. The last time I sent out a couple of articles I had great results so here's hopin! If I spent as much time on that as I do on blogit...well...that's the story eh? Hope you're doing okay Azur!

there can be a randomness effect as well
Sometimes you write an okay blog and get heaps of comments. Other times you write something fine and its barely noticed.

Not looking for the top blogger spot--
definitely looking to write some good stuff on Abyss and Kwick
hoping that some of the compliments aren't loyalty and are a reflection of the writing

Thanks for coming back. I am not so productive bloger, so If you want to re
ad more, you have to go through older poems and haikus, or wait. Sorry, my Muse is lazy.

Your post, as always, very interesting.

The same phrase stuck out for me - the feedback you don't get -
I'm sure we'd all rather get that feedback as it would help us to hone our skills for the paid world of writing.
Well, I'm looking down the ladder at the moment, but maybe soon I'll be on the ground looking up. Hope your paint pot is full to splash some colour on the upper reaches of the wall.

Blogit is like a toastmaster's club
for writers where no one wants to put each other down. So I couldn't help smiling to read this: "
Often the feedback that you don't receive is more telling".
