Katray, thanks. Hopefully I will pull through both - lol
People often say to me that I'm lucky or that it's OK for me because I can do these things. Huhh? I am no different to anyone/ I came from a background as unconnected to writing as could be and I flunked high school.

, that's fine though I must prepare you that mine will not be a fine version of literary fiction.

Straightforward, in some senses of the word that's true
and I think that's what you mean.
I am not pragmatic in the old fashioned definition of being meddlesome

I don't mind sharing ideas but I only share leads very occasionally. a) because I have to work hard to get them and b) I don't like to be the cause of an editor being bombarded by half thought out pitches. It's the same for bus widgets as articles

That should be a good challenge. I think by the sounds of it that your word count is already much higher than mine!

Well good luck Azur...
..I hope you'll let us know how it goes. I'm signing up for a 'course' with the state university and the instructor...a published author...will review 3500 words/week of one's novel and offer feedback. Students also critique each other's submissions. We'll see how it goes...it ain't really cheap!

Good luck with your novel.
As far as opportunities go, I never tell people what projects I'm working on and for whom. It's just a no-no in any competitive market place. Experience has put me in the loop, and being quiet helps me stay there. Although we are in different markets, it is all business and anyone who has to earn a paycheck should be able to respect that. My novel is stuffed away in a box. No ideas, no motivation, nada. Maybe in five years things will be different. Take care Azur

Lensman, good luck with that. Please let me know how it goes?
In these posts I try to give a warts and all view - success and setbacks. Yes I am in the circle in a way but one never stops trying to get closer to the heart of things. The truth is that there probably is no heart and that it's all about how you perceive yourself at any given time. The other reason I am "in the circle" is that I don't have any alternative places to be. I've nowhere else to go

I find these ongoing updates of yours quite interesting. As someone who's already in the circle, so to speak, you deserve what ought to be coming your way. I hope it does, soon. I'm on tenterhooks these days, waiting to hear the final decision from a magazine I submitted to almost seven weeks ago. They said it was being considered for publication and they'd let me know in 8-10 weeks. Getting close. Fingers crossed...for both of us

Ariala, I don't earn much at the moment because
it has taken a while to build up things after moving into a completely different market. Over the past year I've written in some detail about topics I've never covered before which means that there are few shortcuts, contacts and little acquired knowledge to fall back on. I research almost everything from scratch.
I am lucky that I can cope with a diverse range of topics. UNfortunately recently I had put most eggs in one basket and that basket has fallen apart for now. The other factor is that I aim very high and get articles published in leading publications that are very competitive so there are many good writers out there competing for a finite numbers of slots.

Azur,
I don't think you feel any pangs of remorse for not revealing the source of your livelihood. You have to feed yourself first, after all. Best of luck with the new projects and it's not just the opening doors that made it possible but your resilience and resolution to walk through them.
