Brettnik, I don't know if it's correct but on reflection
it sounds quite formal. I love that in writing we can use language that is unlike how we speak

I must take a note of - 'Only if I let them,' and stick it up on the monitor. Reference books may soon be things of the past, Azur.

I just can't get past the fact that you said "it should have done"
I don't think I've EVER said that phrase correctly in my life, even though I know how to say it correctly. As for impressions, hey, all you can do is put yourself out there.

Hi,
Pity she doesn't know about some small things called books and the libraries they are housed in. Oh well.

Azur,
I agree, once someone has formed an impression, it can be hard to change. What you've mentioned about children, who are still forming, really irritates me to hear adults say things like that in front of their own children. We, as adults, have a more developed sense of self, children are forming theirs, and comments like those can be debilitating.
As for your editor, I hope she does have fun Googling your technical terrm.

I think readers
can sometimes be deliberately obtuse. On Google, quantity does not equal quality.

No, it doesn't matter too much when people don't get you. Sometimes they
just didn't read properly and other times they're just not on the same wavelength. Nothing you can do about either situation.
