Azur,
When I hear the phrase "team building" I think of ridiculous corporate-sponsored events where people who abhor each other are supposed to "bond", another highly dubious word. There used to be retreats for team-building where employees would walk tightropes or fall backwards into their waiting coworker's arms to inspire trust. Personally, I wouldn't be able to trust them that far.
At best, it seems a fake construction, a kind of esprit de corps or camaraderie that money can't buy, and probably lined the pockets of many HR consultants during the 90s.

I don't think of the people in my teams at work as friends.
I just work with them

I have spent so much
of my 'professiona' i.e. work time in building teams and you know what, the individual elements that can often make such a difference just get dumped in the end. And who is that? Me!

Team-building is a waste of time and a waste of money
Your bosses always want you to be pally with people you don't naturally gel with - it can lead to team destruction rather than construction. Teams at work build organically through friendships and mutually supportive behaviour that relies on those friendships - and if you've got a boss who can recognize your actual strengths instead of trying to foist new ones on you, then the boss can build the team (it is their job) naturally.
With writing, agreed, it's solitary, though it's nice to have a place (here) where others are attempting the same solitary pursuit - we can have some solidarity of individual endeavour without having to be a team.

Team building is a pain in the butt
I spend so much time at work already, I hold my free weekends sacred. Now I know that America has several different time-zones but anyone that phones that early is looking for trouble.

Personally, I think that these days that team building, team spirit, team work, team leaders, team development, team training, in the workplace, is all a bit over rated. Whatever happened to individual achievement?
