- Go to Can You Ever Let Go Of The What Might Have Beens?
Adults warm their hands over the spark, children grasp it.
To my regret, I replied to a personal invitation for my 20th HS class reunion that, since I had no wish to try to "nail any old girlfriends" or any great HS exploits to remember, I had no reason to go stay in a hotel twelve miles away from hometown and drink and dance (which I don't do).
Amazing what a dampening effect a statement like that can have.

Hi Azur
On the bright side, you can look forward to the event when it eventually comes round. It's always nice when someone carries a flame for you. P.S. I have finally woken up and stopped blogging with an empty head - I think my comments might start to make more sense now.

Medusa thanks
I don't think I've ever had a flame rekindled but in this case the flicker continues

I don't dwell on it so much as allow the occasional indulgence in such thoughts

sometimes the idea of such encounters is so real to us that we can almost forget that it isn't real. On some level we are with these people with whom we shared brief moments

very true and we should allow ourselves to acknowledge that

I agree that two peas in a pod are not the ideal formula. My other half is also very different to me but it works well. the main reason being that we allow each other to follow our own dreams as well as the shared ones

Jazwolf, where there was pain I now feel benign
I have been lucky that I do not hold onto the pain for long. I think fondness is good because these relationships did succeed for a time - probably as long as they could have

Azur--- These might-have-beens are one of the real pleasures in life. I
have one that has moved far past pain into fond reminiscence.

On the contrary. This sounds like my wife and I. I heard a famous relationship expert explaining that a house must have cross-timbers in order to withstand the stress of existence. So it is with marriage. Those who are alike stand the least chance of remaining together. The trick is learning to communicate and valuing what the other says and surrendering the need to be right all the time.

I have one too. Sometimes he visits my dreams, but in my waking moments, I know we would have clashed too much.

Nice job, Azur.....I am so sentimental, that I like to look back...
Not always great to do, but it is nice when that flame can re-kindle..I think we all feel that emotion once in a while. Things happen and don't happen for a reason, I suppose. But, if , should have or could have, there are instances where people and things re-emerge in our lives if briefly, and sometimes that's nice. Yes, I've dated dimwits and smart ones, but like you say, intelligent ones don't always do well in matters of the heart...lol...
