Good comment, Blanche.
I bet God is thinking "what's wrong with what I created?" I'm of the opinion that I won't be perfect until Heaven. And that's OK with me!

JanesOpinion,
The movie "Gattaca" with Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman summarized a lot for me about the dangers of seeking genetic perfection. Ironically, Ethan Hawke's character had the same genetic flaw I have. However, nothing comes without a price, there are tradeoffs. Who knows what we would miss if everyone were genetically engineered to be "perfect": I wonder how God feels about it.

Xenox, we agree? Wait! Let me write this down for posterity.

Yeah, I too have a problem with genetically modified soybeans (and any other modified food).

this is scary
not that we agree -- but then again
this is Frankensteinian at its utmost.
genetic alterations in other biological forms have problems -- such as the Roundup Ready Soybeans -- genetically engineered to resist Roundup Herbicide that will kill other broadleafs.
this field has not been tersted fully yet. the present genetic alteratons have not been observed enough.
genes are sensitive things -- can be changed in an instant.
too much unknown there.

I'm sorry....I was making a bit of a satirical joke .....
It's a movie based on a H.G. Wells story:
Through DNA experimentation Dr. Moreau has upset the balance of nature. By turning animals into humans, he's turned heaven into hell.

Sophistie, the irony is that everyone is fixated on embryonic stem cells
but it's adult stem cells that seem to be working their magic in the search for cures to disease. But yes, I agree, we need to focus on finding a cure for the ailments we currently suffer from.
Or here is an idea -- let's see, perhaps they could come up with a 5'10" 140 pound Charlize Theron type who is resistant (sounds like a type of tomato plant) to the development of coronary artery disease, obesity, diabetes, cancer and Alzheimers. She will be near perfect in every way. I foresee a few ethical dilemmas but heck, it's the end result, not the means to attainment that really matters, eh?
Thanks for commenting!!

Taps it's a relatively small chunk of change in the overall scheme --
but it's the principle that matters, eh?

I like that Burly "prize cattle" --
perhaps that's what we are or will become -- prize human beings. We can put the sperm or ova of these new fangled trans humans on the block and sell to the highest bidder.

Mademoiselle, how boring.
Imagine the monotony if we were all pretty close to perfect. I'll keep my foibles. It gives me something with which to occupy myself.
That said, Charlize does have a gorgeous face . . . .

As always, I agree with you. Are we going to be reduced to producing human beings as they do prize cattle! Natural selection works pretty well!

What?! Transhumanism is a brilliant idea!
Just imagine, a world full of Johnny Depps and Charlize Therons, each one of whom would possess a 200 IQ and a 50" vertical leap. (That's just an example, the possibilities are limitless.)
