Whacky
We've been out of town, and the dogs are still boarded. I miss them so. They will be so happy to be home this morning. I'll put 'em straight into the tub when I get them here.
All my dogs are spayed and neutered. We have 'leash laws' here, but no one abides by them. We have six acres, and so they have plenty of room.

Perhaps the microchipping of pets is a trial run before they start doing it to people, Whacky.

Well actually...
there is a company called "Digital Angel" that will allow you to microchip your loved ones and track them by sattelite. They even send and email if someone wanders outside of their pre-set boundaries. (They can insert the chips under the skin, or put them in a bracelet or some type of jewelry.) Of course, overanxious parents probably prefer the under the skin option so kids don't just ditch the bracelet at the friends house they SAID they were going to be staying at tonight...

I think it's coming in the future.
All of us, humans and pets alike will be microchipped at birth. That elimanates kidnapping altogether.
Yes, I would like to get my cat done.

oops, i forgot (reading julia's comment reminded me). a tattoo in the ear
takes care of the lost collar. any difference between the tat and the chip? instant info from the chip but again, you need the necessary equipment to access it.

the absolute greatest thing about the microchip is that it can contain the
medical history of the dog. should the dog suddenly find itself at the shelter, the microchip info will prevent it from receiving unnecessary inoculations or food or medicine to which the dog is allergic.
the problem with the microchip is that it is not worldwide, not everybody has the necessary equipment to access the info. and as you have pointed out, whacky, people don't even follow the leash law, why on earth would the lawmakers think they'd be able to enforce the microchip?
a dog license i can agree with because fees collected go toward maintaining parks, etc. vancouver's method of encouraging people to be responsible re buying a license is to increase the cost of the license as the year goes by, the longer you wait, the more expensive the license.
my personal belief? the absolute best thing you can do to keep your mutt safe is to have an id tag with your number and the number of your veterinarian. i keep a laminated sheet with me at all times with photos of the dogs i walk. each photo has the number of each dog's veterinarian. in the event i am incapacitated, attending emergency crews or helpful passersby will be able to direct the dogs to a safe, knowledgeable destination.

I'm with you on this one, Whacky. I don't agree with microchipping animals. It may not be painful to them, but there's just something not natural to me about it. Frankly, it kind of freaks me out!!
If God had intended His creatures to be microchipped, He would have done it Himself on the day of creation. That's just my humble opinion....Or maybe it's not so humble after all...

I don't think it hurts them in any way,
and if he lost his collar for some reason, it would be very good for both of you if Bo were microchipped. And you know, I'm probably going to get lambasted for this opinion, but I think it might be good to microchip humans too!!
