No one hates war more than a soldier...
We should have left Iraq three weeks after we toppled Saddam, turn it over to the Arab nations and let them screw it up.  Now Afganistan, I can actually make a case for staying a while, but with a reduced commitment.  I fence sabre, and I admire a fine blade, does not mean I am in love with it.  However, sabre once taught me a very valuable lesson.  in the late 70's, while the cold war was still frigid, I visited Hungary, where the national sport is sabre.  I went to a fencing shop, and I was in heaven, masks, bells, grips, this and that, racks and racks of the stuff.  Then I noticed there were no blades, none at all.  Now a modern fencing sabre is blunt pointed, stiff, and has no edge, though I could still kill you with one fairly easily.  I asked the manager where the blades were.  He said that you had to belong to a fencing club, and they would issue you one, one at a time, serialized, and it had to be kept at the club.  Apparently, they had a similar rule for typewriters, also dangerous weapons....   Freedom, consider it, if nothing is worth fighting for, then, you value little.
