I feel kinda sad for you, too, Robdon.

Sorry, Thomas ... I don't go that route.
I once hung my coat on a tombstone (when I was in middle school), and I've regretted it ever since.

I wish you had told me that a week ago, SmartDog.

When you get to the big league....I'll join you when you snag a headstone out of the graveyard.

Mm
I'd be careful if I were you.  Once you start, it's hard to get out.

Be well,

How could she not, Factor?

I'm just so cute.

Btw, I may actually do a full post about the pantsing at some point.

Oh I saw your comment about pantsing her someplace.
It's a wonder she puts up with you, huh?

Madam.... I love it! Simply love it!

ASAHP, Ann ...
Although I usually like to give the first installment adequate time to sink in.

posted by Mademoiselle on May 17, 2006 at 2:27 PM | link to this | reply

Oh, that was intended as free advice, actually.

Though I think it is a pretty funny addition.

Flashlights ... yes.
Crosses ... no.

Did you bring along a "talisman"  like a huge cross or a flashlight?

I suppose she has her moments, PassionFlower

posted by Mademoiselle on May 17, 2006 at 1:54 PM | link to this | reply

Pretty Funny....Best line of the story=
"Oh, good." she says, "That way I can fail every subject just like you."

Manon is a clever girl!

posted by Passionflower on May 17, 2006 at 1:47 PM | link to this | reply

Actually, Talion ... I've written a few this way.

One about a bigfoot sighting and another involving my cat come to mind.

As a general rule, though, I tend to focus where my strengths lie.  (Which would be the humor and the unusual "voice".)

P.S. I'm not having to scroll down on this post.  It seems to fit the screen perfectly.

posted by Mademoiselle on May 17, 2006 at 1:11 PM | link to this | reply

Neither, Mason ...
I think I'd probably dress more like UltraViolet ... lousy movie, sensible attire.

posted by Mademoiselle on May 17, 2006 at 1:05 PM | link to this | reply

Sounds kinda like the old campy Batman series, Samhain ...
I love that show, btw.  It's hilarious.

Mademoiselle

Compared to the way I acted around girls I had crushes on in the past, Derek is a blabbermouth. Compared to how I feel most of the time, I still say he talks too much.

I like the style of this post. I wondered when you'd get around to writing this way.

Note: I know how much you hate scrolling through long posts so here's a hint. Hold down the Shift key while you press the Enter button and it gives you a single space between paragraphs instead the double.

..might make an interesting three part comic series...
..what wardrobe would your character like, trench coat, fedora hat, cape?....the midnight kidnapping of the gnome king...

Mademoiselle, I remember the original “Sky Captain” series – man, was it exciting – it usually ended with the Captain’s plane crashing or blowing up – and then the following week we would find that it did not REALLY crash or blow up – somehow, the Cpt. miraculously survived at the last instance – maybe that’s why we thought we were invulnerable and did all of those drugs in the ‘60s? – too bad the sequel bombed – kids weren’t as smart in those days – if we had been, then instead of waiting a week for the sequel that never ended, we would have stayed home and surfed Porn on the internet or played with our Gameboys  –  good luck with YOUR sequel   Samhain_Moon

I'd love to do a post like that someday, Samhain ...

One that is never resolved.

There was an excellent movie a couple years ago called "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow", which was based on the old serials.  Sadly, the movie bombed at the box office.

Blogiteers don’t appreciate the power of suspense – or prolonged foreplay – prolonged beyond the point of endurance – but, I, geezer that I am – remember the ‘movie serials’ of the ‘50s. Every Saturday (yes, once a week) we went to the movie which was preceded by a short ‘serial’ – ‘Cpt. Somebody of the R.C.M.P’ – or something similar – and every week we were left with a cliff-hanger – tantalized and titillated – and there was NEVER completion (well I think about once a year things were wrapped up) – so, that said, I’m enjoying this – HA – do you believe THAT? any of that?  Samhain_Moon

Though, to solve old school mysteries, fourcats ...

would likely require some sort of van.

Plus a stoner sidekick and his irrepressible talking dog.

P.S. I don't make grammatical mistakes.

They aren't the same thing, LovelyLadyMonk?
Well, then, I guess this one's strictly a garden gnome.

posted by Mademoiselle on May 17, 2006 at 7:51 AM | link to this | reply

i'm pretty sure that's supposed to be

"whom i shall call derek".   and thanks for still not telling the 24 storyline, i still haven't seen my tape.  i was thinking maybe next year jack could pose as a woman running for the presidency.  he could use the name jackie and wear chanel suits.  maybe go for a leisurely presidential drive through texas........solve some old school mysteries!

Lawn gnomes, garden gnomes...Don't make no difference to me!!  They're all UGILER THAN SIN!!!!

I love that show, Rumored! (It's practically the only one I watch.)
Even if it is growing increasingly farfetched with each passing season.  In fact, I've bet my friends that, next year, Jack ends up thwarting a terror attack by battling ninjas aboard an alien spacecraft.

posted by Mademoiselle on May 17, 2006 at 7:31 AM | link to this | reply

oh my, you do know how to build the suspense, mademoiselle...
you should be writing for "24"...:)

posted by Rumor on May 17, 2006 at 7:24 AM | link to this | reply

Yeah, that might work, Corbin ...

Though I hope the movie version of my story is handled a lot better than John Berendt's was.

posted by Mademoiselle on May 17, 2006 at 6:32 AM | link to this | reply

Actually I haven't, Strat.  Though it sounds like the sort of movie I would watch.

A couple weeks ago, I ended up staying up all night, watching "Devil's Rain", which is a movie about a satanic cult lead by Ernest Borgnine (of all people).

Perhaps you should post about your experience.  I'm sure the statute of limitations has likely expired by now.  Unless, of course, you killed someone during the heist.

Reading your title here.....
I can't help but keep visualizing a sepia photo of a statue of a gnome on the cover the book when this is released......

Factor, I once pantsed Manon in a 7-Eleven ...

right in front of an entire Pakistani family (the store's owners).

Now that was a time, when I could have really used my camera phone.

posted by Mademoiselle on May 17, 2006 at 6:21 AM | link to this | reply

This is really funny.
It reminds me of a foray some friends of mine and I made years ago.

I cannot get into too much detail, because it involved purloining artifacts from an alternative house of worship. If you've ever seen that old cheesy 70s flick "Race With The Devil" you might begin to understand why for the longest time I thought it was a documentary.

Too funny.
If only you had brought a camera...

Um, that would be:
"chickened out".

posted by Mademoiselle on May 17, 2006 at 5:48 AM | link to this | reply

I seriously doubt it, Ann ...
I think I probably would have started to ... but once I got closer to the house, I almost certainly would have chickeded out.

Thank you so much, Corbin ...
I often get criticized for "building suspense"... but I've always found it to be rather charming, actually.

Oh, this delay is nothing, SilverMoon ...
I put off telling my blender story for so long, that when I finally got around to it, I had forgotten, like, 40% of the details.

posted by Mademoiselle on May 17, 2006 at 5:13 AM | link to this | reply

well, finally.  You certainly took your sweet time getting around to this story.  Now carry on...!
