Addressing Frankly and FW together . . .

I think FW has it nailed, more or less. The only qualifier is that they are assuming the Latinos will be voters.

And that's the rub on Frankly's comment, to bring that back to topic. Those who are granted citizenship, by normal means as the President wants or not, will have the right to vote. But the assumption has been that the illegals will want to become citizens. I have a growing suspicion that mny of them will decline. But whether or not they do become citizens, unless we impose a much higher standard of acceptance based on ability to pay one's own way, the illegals - and the future millions who will follow if the Senate has its way - will become an enormous drain on our social services. It is highly improbable that they will pay much of anything into Social Security, Medicare or anything else, while sucking every dime they can from our generosity. Hence the wisdom of Mexico's immigration policy, which requires immigrants to be financially responsible and bars them from the public dole.

a diversionary tactic of a sinking president....
.....and how will the illegal immigrants be able to vote or pay the taxes that will support the aginging boomers...what's next, border guards along the canadian border? too keep all the liberals out? and finally, where is the money coming from to deploy those guardsmen? the cash cow died as soon as it arrived into Iraq and there's no more free milk...or money...oops, I guess there is money, but it's fake money, conjured dollars that can't be bought or sold...alot like the US dollar right now...floating on debt but sinking fast.....thank Mr. Bush in about 6 months for a dollar that'll be on par with the Mexican peso...sorry, this comment is a bit wide on subject matter, but it all relates back to a president that can;t seem to generate any good news, even among republicans...

You finally hit the nail on the head!!!!!
Both political parties realize the baby boomers will be in the old folks home soon, and the young, ever-growing Latin population will be the voter of the future.
