Not only that, I prefer to give my charity dollars to groups
that are helping their "clients" learn to help themselves:  Habitat for Humanity, which train people to build houses while helping them build their own home; Trees for Life, which provides seedlings and instructions for new orchards and reforestration; Heifer International, which provides training and livestock to both rural and urban areas around the world; and Foundation for International Community Assistance, which LOANS small amounts ($50 US per individual is typical) of money to Third World women who are trying to start their own businesses--to name my favorites.

It's all about capitalism

I too am weary of people that try and rely on other groups to supplement their endeavors.

Too many people have forgotten or never learned that this is a capitalist nation. And although there is always room for growth and improvement, it must start at the source.  People on freeway ramps and street corners begging for money, to those expecting a handout just because they feel it is owed to them undermine our value systems by taking advantage of people's tendancy to want to  be helpful and charitable.  It is anti-evolutionary. And I for one refuse to buy into any instition that is in the business of  pulling the *Please Help, God Bless You* card.

It not only insults me personallly but it is an insult to those of us that work hard toward raising humanity up, out and beyond our prediciment.
