LOL at avante's comment...
But I'd like to field the pregnancy question. Obviously, you get one of those home pregnancy kits and hold it out for the dog to pee on it! DUH!

My mom took our first dog, a male, to the vet when his 'red-rocket' came out the first time. Imagine the laughter that surrounded that one!

bel_1965,
No, they're not too young for solid food at that age. You can call your local animal control (aka county animal services) and ask them if you can rent a trap. Either that, or they can come out and retrieve them for you and adopt them out. They are at an age as to where their mom probably won't nurse them anymore so you're right in assuming that if they don't come out they will die. However, cats have a good hunting instinct and they will start hunting for food on their own (mousing, etc.) Their instinct is stronger than their fear. Also, if Mom is nice, the kittens probably can get used to humans and get adopted in a few months.

Bell Keeper, I've got your answers.
No. Not possible. Why? Cause she's a CAT. Dogs usually come when they're called. Cats? Nope. They'll take a mental note-messege and get back to you. Maybe.

I give you much credit, but seriously, more of the elderly are honestly SO much more intelligent than the others. Scary, huh?! Yeeks!

LMAO...I work in the autobody repair industry. We get stupid questions
too, therfore, I feel your pain and sympathize with your frustration.
Customer: "Yeah, do you work on cars?"
Me: "Uh, no! Only airplanes, refrigerators, and lawn ornaments. Sorry."

Spitfire I am so sorry. I do PR for a non-profit and as much as I believe in what I am doing, I have choke on some of the calls and emails I get. Given it is in support of troops and Vet's I get all kinds of people emailing questions about this situation in Iraq as if I know what happened in Tikrit 2 hours ago or what post their friend is on (mind you I don't even know who the friend is).
Animal Question is you have a few seconds and don't mind though:
Our neighbors house burned down and they had two cats that they abandoned (I know it sounds cold, but if you read my blog you will understand why I am feeling so cold about them). Anyway, I felt for the cats especially since one decided to have kittens under my shed (they don't believe in taking care of their kids or pets) and now I have kittens that are about 8 weeks old (maybe 6-7) under my shed, that I can't get at without tearing down the shed and they are petrified of people. There is a local farm that will take them all and take care of them but I can't get them out. I have tried everything I can think of including tuna. The mother is very friendly but the kittens have never been near a person. yes, I know they are young for solid food but I thought the smell might attract them. ANY suggestions? They will die under there.

LOL!!!
I really enjoyed reading this! Gonna let my wife read it...
I do need to ask something, though...
Our cat is capable of hearing - she hears her food being poured into her dish while she is in another room - but she will not respond to her name. Is there a way to get her to remember her name, and, if so, is it possible for her to learn to recognize it if we write it down when we are trying to keep quiet during my daughter's nap time?
Have a nice day!
