How good it must have been to hear from your old friend and that he is doing well.  As for the email, that seems a little mean-spirited of them. Yes, ironically, it seems that in a PC world, some of the finer points get lost.

Speaking of war correspondents, I met an aquaintance of Dicky Chappelle.

I read the book about her, "Candle in thre Wind", which had a short quote about her in it from a local retired TV personality. I ran into him at a bank opening and we spoke briefly about her.

His primary oberservations were that she was "definitely one of a kind" and had a huge capacity for alcohol.

Most people have no idea who she was; the Marines have an award named after her!
