it was an easy analogy for a football/soccer fanatic to me.

Thanks for engaging with this.  I appreciate that. Teaching will always be a sideline for me but I do it because I love it.  I have to give the biggest part of my energy to writing (my first love) and making a living through that as my priority is to keep my family. In a way I have been teaching for years - coaching friends on exam techniques, guiding aspiring journalists, teaching younger colleagues. I am also listed as a journalism mentor. In a few weeks I am doing some sessions at my son's school for senior students who are interested in journalism.  I have put the kind of effort you speak of about regarding your dog training into  my writing career.
When I started teaching formally I didn't realize that I would enjoy it so much and almost as soon as I started I wanted to learn some more skills. I sense that I was already an able teacher (in my field at least) and certainly good enough to carry on without formal qualifications. I took up the scholarship as a commitment to being the best I can be and giving the best I can to the students.
This latest situation is just annoying because it will delay my studies by a year. I am sure I will keep teaching in some way

Azur, What a wonderful analogy.   I have known the feeling of "let me play"

if you truly want to teach, azur, let your impatience with the "system" go.

there are plenty of opportunities to avail yourself to those in need (community centers, outreach clinics, etc) where the students aren't going to care about whether or not you completed your formal education but whether or not you can make a difference in their lives.

i teach dog obedience classes.  i cannot afford my own space to teach so compromised myself by being a trainer at a petcetera store.  it is limiting re playing by the store's rules and for months i anguished over the restrictions and conflicts that arose but the bottom line is, i have an opportunity to help someone in need.  i can take what i've got and make the best of it, i can still make a difference.

if you have the knowledge and you want to teach, teach.  there will always be a place for you somewhere even if it means starting somewhere you'd rather not.  and who knows, schools may show more interest in you if you show a determination that just won't quit.

What about an online course?
I'd sign up.  (Or you might look at the University of Phoenix, they are always looking for part-timers to teach their online courses.)

Azur,
Hopefully, before you get to your wits' end, some glorious opportunity will open up for you.  Things sometimes work that way, but the frustration is well. frustrating.  Hang in there!

That's too bad. It seems that teachers are always the first to receive cutbacks. Perhaps that is why our educational systems are suffering so.
