I feel that if you give others the right to speak, no matter how you feel about it, it increases your own confidence and differing opinions do not matter.

Azur,
I find it hard to believe that you could be offensive if you tried.  It is interesting that no one can predict how one's writing will be perceived, because, as you say, I'd have to be all-knowing and I am very far from that.  I just let my heart be my guide.

Azur
I am not afraid to give my opinion, when asked, but I would never intentionally comment or write a post to offend someone. As you said .. it is difficult to know who will be offended and by what.... being a quiet and very personal being, I find it difficult to summon the courage to write about heartfelt events of my life here on blogit. You've mentioned your positive experiences in that area on my blog and I found that to be encouraging. Thank You!

Blanche, this post evolved from that same discussion
Also the other day I noticed that I must have kicked off a defense mechanism in someone.

Majroj, what you say is true but sometimes
people forget they can go virtually anywhere. Thanks for the insight on the Bedouins

Trevor, to know that we'd have to be all knowing
- that would be different

I think most of us hope for that but I think that if we try to second guess every reaction we may lose our own way

Azur,
I've been looking at that a lot lately.  I learned something from my defense mechanism, my reaction to a post on good writing yesterday, and had a really good exchange about different types of writing.  I want to be a better writer, more crafted and polished, as well as being true to my own voice.

I like to think that I try to
be truthful without being hurtful if possible

Then I'm waiting for the other boot to drop?

The sole can offend. Ask any Bedouin.

Showing the sole of the foot to your companions is extremely disrespectful.

Early in Blogit I think temperance was more important. Now there are plenty of folks to go around, so you can "go elsewhere" (virtually go virtually elsewhere) if you don't like the company.

Stalking and dissing are another matter..

very insightful Azur!  you can't possibly know what will offend everyone else.
