Good luck with that, nireo ...
However, we already own several benches, and I'm not sure how much it's helped me.

what if..

maybe I should invest in a bench, create my own touchstone to those that have created before me and see if I can channel.

LOCATION,PLEASE
WHERE IS THE HANGING SWING?  I AM ALMOST AUTISTICALLY ATTRACTED TO SWINGS AND ROCKERS-NO OFFENSE TO ANY AUTISTIC PEOPLE MEANT- BUT I LIKE TO ROCK-SOMETIMES WHEN I'M NOT ON A ROCKING APPARATUS-A BOUNCY OFFICE CHAIR WILL DO.  I ALSO LIKE TO THUMP AND BOUNCE MY FEET AND LEGS.  LOTS OF ENERGY- I CAN BE DOWNRIGHT IRRITATING TO CALM TYPES.

What's "pine riding", fourcats?
Some sort of equestrian sport?

Una, he sounds more like the guru for living ...
as a bum.

Why, Brettnik?

Sounds sensible, Sophistie.

Conversely, Darrke, I feel I might have ...
too much time to think.

Or possibly, Scriber, a huge mansion on the parkway.

posted by Mademoiselle on June 21, 2006 at 9:46 AM | link to this | reply

athletes too. a huge cross-section of pine riders there. of course,
their benches aren't quite as lovely.

Mademoiselle,

No, he didn't sit there two years straight. He just spent most of his two years on the park bench without doing a job. Some passersby will give him food and ask him questions (spiritual questions I guess).

He is the guru for living in the Now.

I love the little plaques on benches dedicated to specific old men or women
who spent hours on them.

Comfort is the Key, I Think!!

They all look like nice places to sit and think.  Thinking would be a key to good art...I wish I had time to do more.

yes, i can imagine it looks like the town hall.

posted by scriber on June 20, 2006 at 6:12 AM | link to this | reply

Never heard of him or his book, Una ...

He sat there for two years straight?

How did he go to the bathroom?

He must have left some benchmark.

Lucky you, Whacky.

Was Wiley sitting next to you, Rumored?

posted by Mademoiselle on June 20, 2006 at 5:39 AM | link to this | reply

I'm not sure if there's any set time requirement, pkcricket.

Personally, I don't have the requisite attention span necessary to sit still for more than 5 minutes at a time.

posted by Mademoiselle on June 20, 2006 at 5:38 AM | link to this | reply

You're a very, very observant man, Scriber ...
I guess, now, I'll have to think twice before posting pictures of the "haunted castle in the woods" that I "happened to discover".

posted by Mademoiselle on June 20, 2006 at 5:36 AM | link to this | reply

Depends on the motif, Ben.

posted by Mademoiselle on June 20, 2006 at 5:32 AM | link to this | reply

You would have had to have been dreaming to have sat on that particular one, Passion.

posted by Mademoiselle on June 20, 2006 at 5:31 AM | link to this | reply

That's not a bad idea, Ben ...
perhaps I should apply for a patent.

In some people's minds, Blanche.
Just the other day my mother said to me, and I quote, "You're really rude, you know that?  You're rude and you're ignorant."

What happened to the old one, Azur?
Was it stolen?

posted by Mademoiselle on June 20, 2006 at 5:23 AM | link to this | reply

Yes, Eckhart Tolle, author of Power of Now,

sat on the park bench for two years before he became a spiritual teacher. To be accurate, he was already a spiritual teacher when sitting on the park bench, answering questions from people.

I like the photos you posted! I want to sit on them to be enlightened.

Woo Hoo! I'm in! I even have a bench im my yard!

posted by Whacky on June 19, 2006 at 9:28 PM | link to this | reply

Mademoiselle, yes, that is of course true - what is not as well known is that many of these same artists, writers, etc. (especially those living in the Southwest and subsisting on a diet of Mexican beans) left "bench marks" upon the benches where they sat. While not every poet left a bench mark and while not every poet sat upon every bench, still you might be able to locate some truly historical benches by seeking out these misunderstood remnants from the past.  Samhain_Moon

don't forget baseball and hockey players....
I rode the bench and pondered "why me?"......and those outdoor skating rink benches get cold in the winter....

posted by Rumor on June 19, 2006 at 4:40 PM | link to this | reply

I know I've sat on several benches...maybe that's why i write so well!  hmm...interesting thought...maybe I need to line my backyard with park benches and take up sitting on each one at least 20 mins a day...

posted by pkcricket on June 19, 2006 at 4:38 PM | link to this | reply

those look more like back yard furniture, swing, than park benches.
Park benches usually don't have backs, for one thing.

I think I sat on that one in the middle and I was suddenly famous...
Or maybe I dreamed it.

We must get a new bench. When my partner had one he was a prolific artist. You may have just saved an artist.

Syllogism is actually a word?!

I thought I had just made it up!

Christ, I am smart.

posted by Mademoiselle on June 19, 2006 at 1:20 PM | link to this | reply

Well, yes, but a specific type of argument or syllogism, Mademoiselle,
Something like the reductio ad absurdum. It's been too long.

posted by Blanche. on June 19, 2006 at 1:17 PM | link to this | reply

Do you mean syllogism, Blanche?

Fortunately, I've planned ahead (in case I don't make it as a writer + my mother kicks me out):

Just last week, I set up a refrigerator carton in the alley out back.

posted by Mademoiselle on June 19, 2006 at 1:13 PM | link to this | reply

Mademoiselle, that is brilliant!
There's a term for that I've long forgotten about specious logic:  some latin phrase, about making absurd causal connections

The way it's going though, I may end up living on one
So I had better make it a s a writer soon.

I now sit on every one I see.

posted by Mademoiselle on June 19, 2006 at 12:58 PM | link to this | reply

Hey, I wanna be famous...LOL

I would assume that's not a good thing, Wiley ...

Unless, of course, you were pulled because the game had already been long decided.

I remember several times that my brother (who plays H.S. basketball) was taken out in the first half because his team was up by, like, a billion points.
