Whacky

Crickets stridulate. Can't be much of a life, can it? Sittin' in a tree stroppin' your legs together like that? Wonder they don't catch fire.

The cricket around our house -- well, cicadas, I guess -- haven't started yet but when they do, the noise is unbelievable! It's like some weird machine, it's sound swelling, dying away, then stopping. It's as if they've got a conductor, and they's a band.

But after a while one stops being aware of it. What is quite sad is to hear the last cricket stridulating in the night. In vain. There you are, you good people ; an idea for a story or poem, with my compliments

no, I've never been kept awake by a cricket.

The sound of my husband snoring, however, well, that's another matter altogether.  I've had to wake him just so I could hear the TV.  I've lain awake for fear the windows would shatter.  I think a cricket would be a sweet lullaby in comparison!

If they're off in the distance, they just blend in and become white noise,
but in my room?  No thanks, I'd be doing as you did and not sleep until the dang thing was found and removed.  I'd throw the alarm clock out, too, but fear I'd be late to work so therefore must tolerate it.

Gahhh!!!
I hate having them in the house! The reason you can't find him is when he plays that fiddle, he actually throws the sound elsewhere -- a protective measure. So if you think he's under the couch, he's probably actually under the fridge playing a gig for the roaches.

Critters like that are especially bad in the lowcountry of South Carolina.

Never been kept awake by a cricket, luckily.
Have been kept awake by my cat though. Sleep well - hope the cricket has left the building.

Crickets usually put me to sleep...
but then they are usually outside chirping, not on my pillow...

Maybe the cricket was hiding in the clock? Lol.

At any given time, we have over 1,000 crickets in the house ...

(to feed my pets).  Though they're confined to the basement, plus it's a rather large house, you can still hear them at certain hours in certain rooms.  But after a while, you hardly even notice the sound.
