This is so sad and so true.

These kind of things make me so frigging angry because one of our family friends was a Vietnam War vet.. He couldn't find any decent jobs ever since he was sent home from a helicopter fall. For almost thirty years, he never had a job that paid over fifteen dollars an hour. And like you said, he also suffered from war trauma. He died in a mobile home three years ago from stomach cancer.

Fortunate rich fucks like Bush just doesn't care.

It's all about money, the corporate dollar. If it is beneficial to the
Bush administration, it gets done.  Otherwise...

The government does not give the soldeirs adequate armor
for their vehicles because they don't want the soldiers to return home because then the soldiersw will be subject to veterans' benefits.   This administration sucks.

In a population set to reach 300 million, Blanche, I find it hard to
believe that so many are being extended and redeployed.  I have a cousin who decided to do the rest of his time in the National Guard (he's already done a tour in Iraq), only to find out that his Guard unit is being sent to Iraq.  Fucking ridiculous.  Something tells me that, not only is the government not meeting its enlistment goals, its falling far short of the numbers they're reporting.  And, yes, no way should men and women who have served in our military be given less consideration than welfare addicts and others on the government dole who contribute absolutely nothing to society other than increase the population.

Saul, this kind of thing just frustrates me no end every time I hear or

read about it.  My boyfriend was in the Army. He said that it used to be that soldiers did not have to pay Federal income taxes on combat pay, which was only about $150 a week or so.  Now, that exemption has been done away with.  Also, there was a news story on the local news that widows of soldiers killed in Iraq cannot collect their full benefits, there's some flim-flam b.s. about some deduction that is taking about half.

No housing?  They should kick out about half the drug addicts in the housing programs and public housing.  Have them move here, there's a huge population of homeless in public housing.  I'm not condoning the incidents that have happened in Iraq lately, but it is entirely understandable, considering the never-ending tour these guys are doing. At least, in Vietnam, there was an end to their tours, now they're just getting extended endlessly under the stop-loss rules.  That and the new age limit is 42?  Can you imagine being in basic training with 18 year olds at 42 years old? They're really pushing it.
