I agree with you about the point of protest, unless it isn't working. Have you seen the recent documentary THE WEATHER UNDERGROUND? If not, make an effort to see it. A very nuanced exploration of what drives a revolutionary movement. It's an inside look. No clear black and white. Made me reassess my thinking on protest.

I notice we hear more from Powell and less from Rice and Rumsfeld
and Bush is trying to dilute responsibility by offering an "opportunity" to "share" the mission in Iraq. Cheney...what is HE up to? The real turning poitn will be when they arrest the first reporters and lawyers under the ACT.
Re. Demonstrators: I hope they show more sense than those in Sacramento this summer. The goal of a demo is not to unleash a mob on Starbuck's, but to publicize and polarize. The first brick hits Ashcroft, and the whole deal is off, and the live ammo comes out again. There are corteges of idiots looking for some "action", and hopefully they can't read a roadmap to your area.

To kaytray
I think you may be too young to remember, but there have been many times
in our countries history when protestors were jailed, intimidated or, in my generation, shot dead (Kent State anyone). Time tends to dull memory, but the anti-Vietnam war protests of 60's and 70's were brutal. Our government didn't like what the people were saying then. Our government doesn't like what the people are saying now. Watch your back. It could happen again.

Even the News Here...
...is saying there is a wind of change in America now, a backlash against the fascism of the Bush regime.
Finally!!
Thanks for the great coverage. Keep it up.

Wow is right! What amazing pictures! Wonder why I didn't catch this on the news? I did hear something today about Bush critics giving our enemies more ammuniton to fuel their hatred of us or something like that. I don't know who actually said it. Probably Ashcroft. How scary is that? What's next, arresting critics and protesters because we're a threat to national security?

Excellent photos - Wow!
Vivid emotions!
I certainly hope you're right about the winds of change...certainly if anyone can bring them about, it's Dean. Great potential there. Fingers crossed.

Cynthia:
Thank god people are finally starting to challenge and question the vile Patriot Act, and the even more vile John Ashcroft. I lived in MO when we elected a dead man (Carnahan) over Ashcroft - the dead man scared us less; when Bush appointed him Attorney General, I knew no good would come of it. I'm just glad people are finally coming around...
