I have imagined it - and it's not good. Not with my fat-arsed moggies.

avant--
yeah, good thinking! ;-)

My vet said they didn't recommend sedating the cats, so I opted to follow their advice. The cats were sedated enough just from all the hours stuck immobile in their carriers.

I brought my mom's dog a thousand miles to our home in NC in '00. I gave him a couple of sedatives, and he shit in the seat two or three times. The vets said he might lose control of his bowels. I was so glad to get there, after 14 hours. I should've used a pet carrier. Luckily, I thought enough to put a towel on the seat.

Oy....do I know how you feel.  Two summers ago, making the trip from my grandmother's where my siblings and I had lived a couple weeks after my parents split, we had a gigantic heat wave but had to drive 900 miles with my cat Oreo and her five 4-wk-old kittens in one gigantic carrier.  We had no room to put it anywhere else, so it went on my lap.  900 miles of hissing, yowling, more yowling, more hissing...cries of "mrrrrrooooowwww" as if they were being murdered...it was sooooo much fun.
